Christianity stands or falls with its revolutionary protest against violence, arbitrariness and pride of power and with its plea for the weak. Christians are doing too little to make these points clear rather than too much. Christendom adjusts itself far too easily to the worship of power. Christians should give more offense, shock the world far more, than they are doing now. Christian should take a stronger stand in favor of the weak rather than considering first the possible right of the strong.

Hey Christian, how you vote, your political affiliation, who you vote for; this is a decision you should make based on your informed and thought out confidence in what and who you think is better for the US and it's future. The past few voting cycles have seen a larger diversity in how people of faith vote than witnessed in the past 5 decades. Your political opinion is just that, an opinion and a choice. When you post memes, quote, "news" articles that are not accurate or true, you have moved beyond opinion to endorsment of the accuracy of the article. If you haven't done you due dilagence to validate the information you are sharing, you are in the category of what the Bible calls Romours, Slander and Gossip. It doesn't matter if it aligns with your views. If it is inaccurate, it is on you. If you can do you due dillagence and find inaccuracies in the information and you still post it, now you have made the choice to become a liar. Sounds harsh, but, posting viral memes and info on your account makes you responsible for it. Please be discerning in what you post. To support party A or B, do it and express yourself. But your credibility and integrity will lastg past this election and people don't need to feel validated in misinformaiton, they need to know that what you post is reasonably accurate. Don't let others lie through you.

Colossians 4: 5-6

"Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone".

Lets be honest; many who see themselves as Christian have in reality signed on to the theology, a packet of ideals and religious systems of a church as opposed to embracing daily surrender and humility. You can tell these people by their fears, fear of LGBTQ, fear of society, fear of different ideas and perspectives, fear of growth, change or progress. And how those fears and insecurites are manifest by control and judgment of others. Because they are fear based, they have little faith in their God. They believe they have to follow rules, make their children follow rules and manage themselves an others in a way that appears 'clean". They are still the "old man" as Paul warned about, but buy into the delusion that apearing clean on the outside means they are different. They use Colossians 3 and 4 as a club to beat another person with. They are awesome at quoting the words of Jesus when He said "they will know you by your love." Yet this is alien to them, not real, not American, not manly and just not doable (as long as they cling to their theology, ideals and religion)They only know the psuedo peace of control.
The humble, surrendered person shows little fear, they exercise faith. In their faith they have little concern for theology or precepts. They have little concern over how they appear to others. They only want to know that they are clean in their heart. The allow the grace and hope of the Perfect Love reign over their fears. They may be uncomfortable, repeatedly allow themselves to be in the unfamiliar and appear to what the former would call inconvienced. They worry little about the status or sins of others, they only want to know how to better follow Jesus, reflect his compassion and take action for another person to in a way that reflects their worth. They wear Colossians 3 and 4 in the hearts and live it in their actions toward others. They know real peace, because they have no shame or worry of others. They are the description of the Fruit of the Spirit Paul described in Galatians. They take to heart, mind and action that Jesus' words are a perfect vlaue to own and exhibit, the humility of which is not weak but wise.

Colossians 3: 11 - 15

"Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."

Jesus declared his own mission was not to condemn the world but to save it; so many today see it as their mission to do the opposite, to condemn. As genuine followers of Jesus let us reflect his mission to speak life, love and hope over all we encounter, declaring to them their immeasurable worth to the One who designed and made them.

The whole of Jesus' life, teachings, actions and benifit to humanity makes best sense in seeing what He is for not what He is against. Too often the modern church defines itself in it's opposition to an aspect of society rather than offering a hope for society.

When the follower of Jesus is genuinely a disciple of Jesus' life, teachings, and model, it will be evidenced by their following the whole of all he taught. They will develop for others a contrast between the religion of Christianity and the true indwelling of the Spirit that Jesus promised.
They will proclaim the good news, they will also tend to the abandoned. They will hope for His return, they will also dress the wounds of the victim. They will learn the Bible, they will also show that the understand the difference between words and The Word. They won't proclaim what they know as fact in debate, they will live in their faith knowing it is a faith. The strength of their faith is in the God who is strong, not in the arrogant confidence of their rightness and facts.
They will lead with their love then they will have the credibility to tell others about their hope. The follower of Jesus will recognize the Imago Dei in others and see their worth, not trying to shame them by proclaiming them to be wicked and ugly before God. The follower of Jesus lives by what they are for, not what they are against.
The religion of Christianity is the opposite of this, it looks to judge without relationship or investment. It looks to correct the human flaws it sees in others. It demands compassion but has none for others. It looks for power and shuns humility. It puffs itself up with being right, never bothing itself with what is true. It looks to its comfort and security in money, brand and status. Whereas the follwer of Jesus looks only to have their heart molded into one like His and their reward is the Fruit of the Spirit and the hope of eternity.

The religion will defend the undefensable with a twisted narriative of logic and tales villianizing any who disagree or disprove it. If it is not within the religion's sphere of influence, control and effect, it is by default wrong.

Whereas the follwer of Jesus sees all of humanity and creatiion as a testament to God and looks for his mark and signature in the whole of creation. To be humble and learn is the process of knowing God more, be it art, science, education, society and family. With humility the follwer exercises faith in the whole of God and His power and desires to collaberate with God and His creation. The Religion desires to imprison God in a box of their making rejecting anything that lies outside the box and defending the flawed and incomlete things in the box.

Yes, the difference between the two becomes clear, one reflects the Hope of Jesus in his message and story desiring to tell and show others this hope in them, while the other sows discord and superiority over those Jesus calls to.

I wonder if an email from Luke to Theophilus would look like this? (Variation of Luke chapters 1 & 2)
Theo,
I hope everything with you and the crew is going well. My time studying here has been fun! While I do get homesick, I have put myself to good use. I wanted to see and talk to people about Jesus, see if I could find anyone that knew him or had any stories about him. So much of what we heard was second hand and I wanted to see for myself what exactly happened that we and so many others base their hope and faith on. So many others have tried their hand at putting together a story of the wonderful harvest of Scripture and history that took place among us, using reports handed down by the original eyewitnesses who served this Word with their very lives. Since I have investigated all the reports in close detail, starting from the story’s beginning, I decided to write it all out for you so you can know beyond the shadow of a doubt the reliability of what you were taught.
The best place perhaps to start is with Zachariah who was a priest during Herod’s time in office. He and his wife were childless and an angel appeared to him, told him they would have a son. Needless to say Zachariah was freaked out by just seeing an angel. The angel then went on to explain to Zachariah that this boy would grow up to fulfill a specific mission for God by preparing the hearts and minds of the people for God Himself.
It’s easy to believe that if you or I had an angel appear to us and say this, we would believe him, but Theo, we both know how skeptical people can be, Zachariah was no different and didn’t believe the word form God delivered by the angel. In response to this the angel, Gabriel, said that Zachariah would be mute until the arrival of the baby.
Sure enough, Zachariah’s wife got pregnant and she gave birth to a baby boy. Now, having been humbled by the muteness, Zachariah, as soon as he could talk again, declared the name of the boy to be John just as the angel had instructed him.
A few months after this a cousin of Elizabeth, Zachariah’s wife, was ALSO visited by an angel, it was the same angel, Gabriel. Her name is Mary, and this is important to the story, she was engaged to a guy named Joseph. So Gabriel appeared to Mary and said to her “Good morning! You’re beautiful with God’s beauty,
Beautiful inside and out! God be with you.”
Needless to say Mary was freaking out! The angel told her to chill, she had nothing to be afraid of and that he brought amazingly good news to her. He told her she would be pregnant soon and her son would be epic, she was to name him Jesus. The angel then told her “He will be great, be called ‘Son of the Highest.’ The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David; He will rule Jacob’s house forever—no end, ever, to his kingdom.”
This freaked her out even more, on top of talking to an angel (or thinking she herself was crazy) she asked the angel how in the heck this could happen since she had never fool around anyone. Gabriel told her, it was going to be a God thing, a miracle, by God’s Spirit. This way, he went on to explain, her child would be called the Holy Son of God. The angel then went on to tell her about how everyone thought Elizabeth was barren but is also pregnant too!
Needless to say this was a big deal to both Mary and Elizabeth and they decided to have a 3 month sleep over. They became closer than ever and it seemed the two children they carried were somehow connected as well.
So Zacharais’ son was born, and a few months later Mary’s son was born.
This happened to be at the same time Augustus ordered the census. So, since Mary and Joseph were married by now they went to his ancestral home of Bethlehem. So their son, he was named Jesus, was born there. But the cool thing is what happened around his birth. First off, there were these shepherds, they had been out in the fields working when the landscape lit up like the day, and again, an angel appeared and assured them that they were fine and that a savior had just be born in Bethlehem. The angel even told them where to find him. Then other angels show3d up and began singing, it was like a heavenly flashmob. The shepherds went to look for the baby, they found him just like the angel had told them, in a stable…in the feed trough. Mary was even amazed and encouraged, knowing that this was all real, and that the son she weld was definitely going to be someone amazing.
Then Joseph and Mary took the baby to the temple for the offering as instructed by the law. Now this next part gives me goose bumps: this guy, named Simeon had been promised by God that he would live to see the savior. When they walked in, he knew right then that this baby was the savior and God had been true to his promise. He sang to God, told God he was ready to pass on (this guy was really old and had been waiting for the savior for a long time), as he made up his song Simeon declared that this baby was not only the savior of Israel but also all the gentile nations! Then this lady, a prophetess, Anna, who hung out day and night at the temple saw the baby and she also broke into song. The parents we humbled, grateful and proud but you could tell they seemed to not understand it all.
Alright man, I have A LOT more to tell you, but I will have to email more of what I have learned later. Seriously, the story of this man, Jesus is amazing. Even before he was born, God was at work in and through so many people. I know that when we heard the story originally, we were unsure what was real, what was fable and what was exaggerated. But just the part I have told you about, the birth of this baby may be the most defining birth of human history.
I will email you again soon!
