Greetings in Christ,

I wanted to share a few updates from our parish community.

First, thank you to the three parishes that joined us for our screening of Sacred Alaska. It was a wonderful opportunity for Orthodox Christians from across Central Illinois to gather together, followed by the celebration of Vespers. Orthodoxy continues to grow throughout our region, across all parishes and jurisdictions. Glory to God for all things!

Second, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Holy Apostles Orthodox Christian Church for their generous gift of their former iconostasis. We are honored to receive such a meaningful piece of your parish’s history and deeply thankful for your kindness and support.

Third, we continue working toward securing a more permanent home for our parish. We are currently pursuing the purchase of a potential new facility in Pekin:

At present, we are awaiting the sale of our property in Peoria before we can move forward with this transition. We humbly ask for your prayers as we discern and navigate this process.

Хотим поделиться несколькими новостями из жизни нашего прихода.

Прежде всего, сердечно благодарим три прихода, чьи прихожане присоединились к просмотру фильма «Священная Аляска». Это была прекрасная возможность собраться вместе православным христианам Центрального Иллинойса, после чего мы совершили вечерню. Православие продолжает расти в нашем регионе, объединяя приходы разных юрисдикций. Слава Богу за всё!

Также выражаем искреннюю благодарность приходу Святых Апостолов за их щедрый дар - прежний иконостас их храма. Для нас большая честь принять столь значимую часть истории вашего прихода, и мы глубоко признательны за вашу доброту и поддержку.

Кроме того, мы продолжаем трудиться над приобретением постоянного дома для нашего прихода. В настоящее время мы рассматриваем возможность покупки нового здания в городе Пекин, штат Иллинойс:

Christ is Risen! Христос Воскресе! The ROCM 33 speakers have been announced. This week we’re spotlighting each one — starting with one of the driving forces in church musician education and the person whose hard work made gatherings like this possible.
Very Reverend Father Andrei Papkov graduated from Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville and holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory. He served as deacon and protodeacon for twenty-eight years — celebrated throughout the Russian diaspora as an exceptional Orthodox bass soloist. In 1992 he founded the summer liturgical music program at Holy Trinity Monastery that eventually became the Synodal School of Liturgical Music. He served as Cathedral Dean at Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral in Chicago and Des Plaines from 2005 to 2022 — the very cathedral where ROCM 2026 is being hosted. He currently chairs the Synodal Liturgical Music Commission of ROCOR.
Having Father Andrei as a speaker at ROCM 33 is something genuinely special.

A new shepherd has been entrusted with the care of the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America. On Monday, May 4, the Council of Bishops appointed Bishop Spyridon to serve as our ruling hierarch.

We ask your prayers for our archpastor as he begins this sacred responsibility, laboring faithfully in the vineyard of Christ.

CHICAGO, IL — St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary and the Orthodox Church in America's (OCA) Diocese of the Midwest have announced a new initiative to train a select group of men for the priesthood through a three-year Chicago-based program. Backed by a nearly $1 million Lilly Grant, the effort aims to expand clergy formation while maintaining academic and spiritual rigor.

Georgie, Liza, and Elias Sarraf are hosting their annual lemonade fundraiser on Saturday, May 16, from 12pm-4pm at the home of Leo Sarraf, 6410 Brookwood Ln., Peoria, IL 61614. The event will be a block party and is open to everyone, especially families. Lemonade will be available at no cost, and children can enjoy free hot dogs, chips, and cookies. All donations will support children with autism and other special needs in Lebanon through Wahat Al Farah, “Oasis of Joy,” a Greek Orthodox ministry dedicated to serving these children and their families.
