Grace and Peace Lutheran Church

Grace and Peace Lutheran Church Welcome, feel free to join us for worship on Sundays. Pastor Mary Beenken leads this congregation. Grace and Peace Lutheran Church has a rich history.

Grace and Peace is a growing, faith-filled congregation with a strong presence in the north end of Peoria. It is the blending of two congregations – one a mission church and one a long-established congregation. The blending of these two unique perspectives to God’s work and ministry created the Grace and Peace congregation that moved into the current facility in 1994. Peace Lutheran Church was a m

ission church formed in 1981, formerly located at Big Hollow Road and War Memorial Drive. This mission project was started by two Lutheran churches in Peoria – First English and Zion. Grace Lutheran Church was founded in 1913, with formal Articles of Incorporation filed in 1914. Services began at the YWCA facility, soon moving to a church building at Illinois and Dechman in 1916. The growing congregation moved to a new church facility on Arcadia Street in the late 1950’s. The two congregations merged, built a new facility, and dedicated that facility in 1994. We welcome everyone to join us in Sunday worship, whether you are just visiting Peoria or are looking for a church home.

Join us for worship at 9AM to praise our Savior and fellowship together. Tomorrow's sermon is about how Christians are called to handle conflict and resolve it. Jesus and Paul both remind us that as Christians, we are called to be concerned first and foremost not with ourselves, but with our neighbors. Even when we disagree, as followers of Jesus, we are expected to go to great lengths to heal divisions in the body of Christ.

The children's sermon is about the final line of the gospel, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” Minerva and Nathan will discuss what it means for two or three to "gather," and how they can find Jesus in any given group of people, including the congregation at church!

We also expect four very special guests to join us ... and perhaps one may even sing. You won't want to miss this opportunity to fellowship.

And remember the office will be closed on Monday for Labor Day.

As always, you may tune in live or later at https://youtube.com/

Sunday School started on August 30th! Our Sunday Schoolers learned about the call of Moses, discussed how God might be calling them to loving action, and made "care cards" to share a bit encouragement with hurting neighbors in our community.

Please join us in person or online tomorrow at 9AM when we gather to worship. We'll hear about Jesus's conversation with the Canaanite woman who challenges his assertion that he has come only for the lost sheep of Israel. It's an interesting story because Jesus appears to change his mind, but is he actually (also?) treating her as his conversational equal by engaging in a traditional rabbinical debate with her? It's certainly interesting food for thought and discussion.

Join us at 9AM for worship and fellowship as we sail with Peter and the disciples through the storms of life and how God meets us in the midst of them. God helps us find the stillness when our environment is chaotic, and when we learn to listen to the stillness, we can find God as well.
Minerva will talk about how it's good for us to try difficult things, even if we don't succeed right away. We can always trust God to catch us if we fall.
We hope to see you at 9. As always, if online suits you better, that link is https://youtube.com/

Your presence is most welcome tomorrow at 9AM ... in person or online. Minerva will discuss miracles and Pastor Mary will focus on the parable of the loaves and fish feeding thousands. God provides enough to go around -- for our physical and spiritual needs. Our role, like that of the disciples, is to help ensure all the nourishment God has to offer gets to those who need it. Please join us at 9AM tomorrow at Grace and Peace when we will worship together. Our Global Band will accompany the service.

Minerva is back after her sabbatical and has been searching for the great tree Jesus describes in his parable. Do you think she's been successful?

Pastor Mary's sermon will focus on the nature of the Kingdom of God as described in the parables that Jesus tells: It is costly to participate in it. It's at work even when we cannot see it. And it is valuable beyond imagination. It might sound unattainable, but according to Paul, we cannot be separated from the love of God and God's kingdom. How should we respond? The story of Solomon's prayer for wisdom as he takes up the role God has given to him is a good model for us to consider as we look for the kingdom in our own lives.

Tomorrow at Grace and Peace, we'll gather at 9AM to worship, fellowship, and sing together. Come and enjoy our Global Band as we sing songs from around the world. We'll continue learning how God calls us to be concerned with planting seeds, not pulling weeds—nurturing one another and cultivating community rather than trying to keep our environment perfect and orderly. Tomorrow, at Grace and Peace, we will gather to sing praises to our Lord and contemplate how our hearts and communities are soil for God's work, and how we can be "Good Soil." Our worship begins at 9AM, followed by fellowship time over coffee and conversation. It would be wonderful to have you join us. We'll livestream the service so you can join us online or at your convenience. That link is https://youtube.com/
