Grace and Peace Lutheran Church

Grace and Peace Lutheran Church Welcome, feel free to join us for worship on Sundays. Pastor Mary Beenken leads this congregation. Grace and Peace Lutheran Church has a rich history.

Grace and Peace is a growing, faith-filled congregation with a strong presence in the north end of Peoria. It is the blending of two congregations – one a mission church and one a long-established congregation. The blending of these two unique perspectives to God’s work and ministry created the Grace and Peace congregation that moved into the current facility in 1994. Peace Lutheran Church was a m

ission church formed in 1981, formerly located at Big Hollow Road and War Memorial Drive. This mission project was started by two Lutheran churches in Peoria – First English and Zion. Grace Lutheran Church was founded in 1913, with formal Articles of Incorporation filed in 1914. Services began at the YWCA facility, soon moving to a church building at Illinois and Dechman in 1916. The growing congregation moved to a new church facility on Arcadia Street in the late 1950’s. The two congregations merged, built a new facility, and dedicated that facility in 1994. We welcome everyone to join us in Sunday worship, whether you are just visiting Peoria or are looking for a church home.

Please join us at 9AM for worship as we celebrate Trinity Sunday. Pastor Mary's sermon will focus on how God comes to us in all kinds of different ways. On Trinity Sunday, we celebrate that God's very nature is relational and that God approaches each one of us in the way that we need. I think a good key phrase might be, "Making disciples of all nations."

Sophie the Wisdom Dragon will muse on why we keep changing the paraments frequently. Nathan will explain that after today, we move into the "green" season, the season of Pentecost, or the season of the Church. It's the longest season of the church year because after we've learned all about the life of Jesus, we need lots of practice to be his followers!

You won't want to miss coffee hour tomorrow -- Pastor and Nathan will present a slide show of their Sabbatical time in Rwanda. We'll gather in the Great Room for this time of fellowship.

🫶Happy Ascension Sunday from Grace and Peace! Today our global band led us in service- beautiful music with influence from around the globe! Pastor Beenken shared in her message that we are entrusted with certain tasks here on earth; to follow in Christ’s footsteps. It may be a daunting task, but we are equipped to handle it, because God is walking beside us. After service, we had a fun themed coffee hour celebrating one of our youth with a Swiftie birthday! 🎉

Please join us for worship tomorrow at 9AM. Pastor Mary will talk about Jesus' ascension commission to his disciples: how God calls us to take part in bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to earth, but it is not up to us to save the world on our own. God gives the Holy Spirit as our advocate to help us in the holy work that we have been called to share, and gives us one another to share it with.
Our service will be livestreamed, but you can also view it at your convenience at https://youtube.com/

It's Mothers' Day tomorrow and we celebrate and worship together at 9AM. Sophie the Wisdom Owl returns tomorrow to talk about missions. Then Pastor Mary will ask us to contemplate the opening words of the Gospel reading: "Those who love me keep my commandments." Jesus goes on to say that those who follow Jesus' commandments—love God, love one another—have Jesus in their heart through the Holy Spirit. This sets the path toward Pentecost in a couple of weeks. Our coffee hour celebrates Good Shepherd Sunday and the wonderful programs we help sponsor through Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. ❤️ What a joyful day here at Grace and Peace Lutheran Church! Today we welcome back Pastor Mary and Nathan from their two month long sabbatical. We have missed them so much and we look forward to hearing more about their adventures in Rwanda. We were so happy to have Pastor with us again as she shared the message of how we are destined to end up in the house of God, but it’s the path that we take that means more. Happy Sunday! ☀️
