I am so thankful to God for this opportunity He has given me to serve Him. A I see God everyday within His many creations, I feel His power in the nature surrounding me, and I feel His love in each and every one of His children.

God is real and not only does He know you by name, but He has a plan for you, and He has chosen a family for you. He loves us, so, so much that He gave His Only Begotten Son to die for the remission of our sins in hopes that we can return to Him, and live with our Eternal Family. However, we cannot achieve this divine salvation by simply saying we believe in God. He left us with our agency to choose for ourselves how we want to live this life.

Through a reflection of our thoughts, actions, and intentions we are showing God whether or not we are choosing Him. Jesus Christ is the perfect example to us. Jesus Christ loved everybody; He saw daughters and sons of God as God saw them: with great love, and a divine potential.

He used His time on this Earth to serve others and to teach them of God’s wondrous Plan of Salvation. He raised Lazarus from the dead, He healed a man that was blind, He healed a woman who had been sick for twelve years, He took five loaves and two fishes and fed thousands; He performed far too many miracles to count, but the most meaningful miracle was when He gave His own life that we might live.

Jesus Christ knows everything we are enduring because through His Atonement, He has already endured it. He knows us and loves us and wants us to reach out to Him.

Through daily scripture study and prayer as well as thinking Celestial and attempting to be as Christlike as I can, I have learned how to rely on the Lord in my daily life. God is so good, and He has helped me and saved me countless times.

I hope I can learn how to Love like the Savior did, Teach like the Savior did.

“I didn’t want to go to Church today but that’s exactly where I needed to be.

My heart has been so tender with sorrow or hurt feelings and betrayal. I need Jesus so bad. I know that. And though I’ve sought Him in prayer or scriptures, I felt too drained to go to Church and seek Him there.

So dumb. I know.

But I went, because I know better.

I was surrounded by a congregation of humble followers of Christ who showed me exactly what I needed to do to heal my broken heart.

They taught me today how to mourn, how to comfort. They taught me how to use the Atonement and remember the beautiful gift that it is. They taught me about grace and mercy. Attributes I’m constantly in need of.

I didn’t want to go to Church today. I needed to go to Church today. I found Jesus there. I found Him in my heart as He’s always been. But most importantly, I found Him in the hearts of my friends.

And as I sat in church, I got this picture of Joey, on a split with the missionaries in Kenya. And life became so much bigger than me. There he is, walking the streets with strangers, speaking to strangers about His best friend, Jesus Christ. If He can get over his battles to serve Jesus, surely, so can I.

I didn’t want to go to Church today. But it’s the best decision I made.”

“Done in wisdom”: Hardest of all is achieving the right mix or balance between competing good things. No secret formula will achieve this for us. We must avoid the “false balance” (Proverbs 20:23) that becomes a mere excuse for avoiding difficult choices. Self-awareness—an honest assessment of our strengths and weaknesses—is critical. Then righteous living, thoughtful meditation, and heartfelt prayer place us in the path of heavenly inspiration as we make daily decisions. The counsel of those who love us helps us find our way in a world increasingly filled with enticements, distractions, false promises of pleasure, and empty rewards of worldly achievement at the expense of heavenly blessings. The right balance is probably different for each person and also changes for each person over time. Above all, a person grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ and enjoying the sweet companionship of the Holy Ghost will find balance, even—or especially—in the face of overwhelming, unavoidable burdens.

“All things … in order”: The writer of Ecclesiastes taught, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). While we should not “procrastinate the day of [our] repentance” (Alma 13:27), we can safely organize our lives so that, instead of trying to do everything at once, we do many things over time. An extraordinary mother of 12 children wrote: “We cannot do everything, all the time, all at once. We can, through the years, do many things, at different times, one at a time. It is important to see choices as opportunities, not as frustrations.”

Diligent attention to our duties, our inspired choices, and recognition of our limits will enable us to “win the prize.” As children of our Father in Heaven, we are already unique and valuable, beyond anything we can achieve in this world.

All Things in Wisdom and Order. Elder John C. Taggart. August 2010
