Suit Yourself is an outreach ministry of the United Methodist Women at First United Methodist Church of Pensacola. We have been empowering women in our community to achieve economic independence for over two decades. Suit Yourself offers a free service that provides professional work attire, helping the client to thrive in work and life. WHO DO WE HELP? The women we help are working towards moving
from dependency to self-sufficiency, after facing personal challenges in their lives, such as leaving an abusive relationship, going through a divorce or homelessness. They come to us through a referral from a local agency that prepares women for the job market. We currently partner with over thirty agencies in our community. The agencies refer their clients to us when they are ready to interview or after they have attained a job. Some of the agencies we work with include United Ministries, Workforce Esca-Rosa, 90 Works, Catholic Charities and PSC. HOW DO WE HELP? We make an appointment with the referred client, and one of our volunteers becomes her personal shopper. We provide clothing, shoes, new undergarments and accessories, to give each lady complete outfits, either for interviewing or for a new job. But, even more importantly, we give them the confidence and hope they need to succeed on their journey to self-sufficiency. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Our outreach ministry is run entirely by volunteers and donations from our church and community. You can help in one of three ways: by donating new or gently-worn clothing and accessories, keeping in mind that our shoppers are mainly between the ages of 19-30; by making a donation of gift cards/money, used to buy needed inventory; or by volunteering.
