We are proud to be one of the original participants in the VPK program!

Florida was one of the first states to offer free prekindergarten for all 4-year-olds regardless of family income. Since the program began in the 2005-06 school year, more than 3.1 million children have benefited from the Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program (VPK). Data collected by the FLDOE shows that children who participate in VPK are much more ready for kindergarten than children who do not participate in VPK.

For 20 years, countless little hands have learned to hold pencils, little voices have found confidence, and little hearts have learned kindness, curiosity, and courage within these classrooms.
To dedicate 20 years to VPK is more than an achievement—it’s a commitment to shaping futures one child at a time.

On behalf of the Early Learning Coalition of Escambia County, thank you for your dedication to our children and to the VPK program.

The free summer lunch program program for youth at West Florida Public Libraries beings today, June 2 at all locations.

West Florida Public Libraries will be serving free lunch for youth 18 years of age and younger at all library locations Monday through Friday from noon until 1 p.m. A special rural grab-and-go version of the program will be available at the Century and Molino library locations during the same time period.

Disabled individuals 19 years of age and older who participate in a public or private non-profit program during the school year are also eligible to receive meals. This program is sponsored by Feeding the Gulf Coast.
