It was a lovely visit with the Moldovan leaders visiting Pensacola this last week through the Congressional Office for International Leadership (COIL)'s Open World program.

We found great connection in sharing how our program compares to the community issues they are experiencing.

It’s wonderful. We talk about the challenges that are the same in every country and the way we respond biblically at Serving the Hungry.

We’re proud to share that Serving the Hungry, a ministry of First United Methodist Church of Pensacola, has been recognized by the U.S. Department of State’s Office of International Visitors for its incredible hospitality and commitment to global engagement through service.

For 16 years, this outreach has welcomed hundreds of international visitors through the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), offering them a meaningful glimpse into American civic life and an opportunity to roll up their sleeves and serve meals alongside volunteers.

In May, Sandra Jacobs, Deputy Director of the Office of International Visitors, visited and presented a Certificate of Appreciation. Her site visit of the ministry’s facilities highlighted how local generosity makes a global impact.

As our Program Coordinator Eden Davenport shared, “Every meal served together is an opportunity for the exchange participants to give back to a community that has shown them so much hospitality.”

Please join us in celebrating this well-deserved recognition.

We are in need of your clean and not torn grocery bags. Walmart, Winn Dixie or the fancier target will do. The best way to collect them is in a draw string trash bag.
Deliver to First United Methodist Church of Pensacola during business hours. Place them in any of the marked Serving the Hungry bins. If you know my family go ahead and hand them off to us.

We love repeat student volunteers. This Pensacola Catholic High School student has clocked in some major hours and knows all the parts of our commercial kitchen. He’s made key lime pies, banana bread, fig preserves and washed countless dishes. This year he’s leading other students in the morning prep.
