Be smart and safe as we all continue the cleanup from Isaias!
Are you in an area affected by Hurricane Isaias and wondering about your Sunday Mass obligation?
We are blessed that many of our parishes have announced via their websites and social media that they are able to hold Sunday Masses, even if they might not have power restored to their churches.
While Bishop Wack has not issued a blanket dispensation for the diocese, the faithful are not expected to take undue risks. As you prayerfully discern how to honor the Lord’s Day (CCC 2174-2188), a few points to consider:
~Can you safely exit and re-enter your place of residence?
~Are the roads to the closest parish Mass sufficiently passable as to not endanger you or other drivers taking into account debris, downed power lines and emergency crews operating along the way?
~Do you have underlying medical conditions that could be harder to respond to by medical professionals given the local environment?
~Would leaving your home and seeing widespread damage cause significant anxiety or psychological distress, endangering your health?
We hope you are able to join in the Sunday Eucharist but if not, please set aside time for personal or family prayer, giving thanks to God and sanctifying the Lord’s Day in whatever way is safely possible. Today's Scripture readings can be found at bible.usccb.org/readings/calendar.
