Gadsden Street United Methodist Church Focused on being a people of meaningful authentic corporate worship, through the means of grace we seek in to grow in active discipleship.

From the core of worship, Gadsden Street United Methodist Church seeks to grow in discipleship, serving God through serving others and extending Christian hospitality to all God’s children. Through multiple opportunities to serve we seek to reach out with the hands and feet of Jesus to serve the least, the last, and the lost. We seek to offer an open door to all “To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Rich in history, Gadsden Street United Methodist Church was founded in 1901 and worship services are still being held in the original Sanctuary. YOU are welcome each Sunday at 10:00am.

Get ready for our annual Trunk-or-Treat! October 24 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm we will be inviting children from Valerie's House as well as our community to dress up and get some Halloween candy! If you would like to sign up for a trunk, please reach out to Alice Brupbacher or Jane Moseley. If you would like to help but don't want to do a trunk, feel free to donate some Halloween candy.

We apologize for not getting a weekly newsletter out. We are still waiting for internet access to be restored at the church. This should be soon. In the meantime, here are some upcoming things to add to the calendar for this week:

We will pick our Zoom devotional up again next Wednesday. Coffee with Heather will also be postponed a week. This week we will have a church clean-up day to pick up some of the hurricane debris from our campus.

This coming Sunday is laity Sunday. We look forward to seeing you all in worship!

When internet has been restored, we will send a newsletter our to everyone. Until then, see you tomorrow or Sunday!

Hello Gadsden Street UMC friends and family!

So far, the people we have heard from are safe though there are many who might be having trouble leaving their homes due to downed trees and power lines. If there is anyone who needs anything, please reach out to someone! Pastor Heather can be reached by phone if anyone needs assistance with clean up or are in need of disaster relief teams (soon to be deployed to our area).

We are doing our best to be in contact with our members and non-members alike. The storm brought widespread damage to our community and it will take our community to clean up and put things back together.

Out of an abundance of caution for our church family, we will not have Sunday service tomorrow. In lieu of our normal Sunday service, we invite you to be in prayer for those affected. We invite you to help your neighbors and allow neighbors to help you. We invite you to pray for the linemen, many from out of state, here to help our community.

Tomorrow morning, let all around us know that Gadsden Street UMC is more than a building. It consists of people who love God and love their neighbors as themselves.

We will keep you posted on any potential spontaneous worship events we may have at the church this week. Currently, there is no power and it is rather warm inside. We will update you on the power situation as linemen work hard to fix downed lines.

We will be back in worship in the Fellowship Hall on October 18. If we are still without power, then we will host our service on the grounds.

I offer up a prayer and invite you to join me in this prayer for our community and all who have been affected by the storm at this time:

In the midst of darkness, you call forth light.
In the radiance of your light, you invite us to walk into the mystery of your darkness.

You are our light in this darkness, O God.
Be our guide, that we may not be afraid to walk where no light shines.

You fill your creation with hope for peace,
but you also remind us of nature's destructive power.
Shelter us in the midst of storms,
that we may offer shelter to those around us.

May we show forth the light of your glory
by offering ourselves in love to all who are hurting,
and all who are helping those who hurt.

When all we have is taken away,
still you hold us as your very own.
Blessed are you, Lord God of the universe,
now and forever.
Amen.

We are thankful for you all and in prayer for our church family, our community, and all those affected by hurricane Isaias.

Gadsden Street UMC friends and family,

We are keeping a close eye on this incoming hurricane. If you or anyone you know needs help preparing for the storm, please reach out and we will see how we can help. This applies to before and after the storm as long as it is safe to be out.

We are still planning to have Sunday school, Sunday worship, and our trustee meeting following the service. We will update via social media, email, or phone tree to spread the word if anything changes those plans.

Eveyone keep safe and be in prayer for all in the path of Hurricane Isaias.

Today at Gadsden Street United Methodist Church, we pause to remember the men and women who have died in military service. We hold their families and loved ones in our prayers today, asking for God’s sustaining comfort for all who carry the heavy burden of grief. As we honor their profound sacrifice, we also renew our prayers for a world transformed by God's peace.

Ice cream, bounce houses, face painting, and so much fun! Thank you to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Escambia County for letting Gadsden Street host "The Big Scoop" recently. It was an honor to welcome you all to our campus for such a great event. A huge thank you to Beth Robinson and the many volunteers who helped bring it all to life!
