Eric Capps is 74 years old and has been a diabetic for several years. Eric was told that his kidneys were failing from the diabetes and that he would soon need dialysis or a new kidney to sustain his life.
He started hemodialysis in July of 2022 . He had to dialyze 3 times a week for 4 hours at a time. He experienced a multitude of dialysis access problems from the graft placed in his arm . The hemodialysis would leave him very weak after each of his treatments,so he decided to try peritoneal dialysis in January of 2023 which he is currently doing. Peritoneal dialysis is performed through a tube placed in his abdomen and connected to a peritoneal dialysis machine every night for 9 hours. The dialysis cleans his blood and removes excess fluid and electrolytes.
The transplant surgeon says that due to other preexisting conditions that Eric would need a donor from a live donor instead of donation from a deceased person. The best donor would be from a family member but Eric and his wife Joann have never had children and have no living family members that are capable of donating a kidney… so he is on a search for a donor kidney if you would like to see if you could give him the gift of a new life free of dialysis you can send me a private message and I can put you in contact with the transplant coordinator at UVA in Charlottesville where the transplant would take place. They can give you all the details about becoming a donor.
