Over 250 Buddhist nuns from around the world will receive full bhikṣunī ordination in Thimphu, Bhutan from November 15–19 2025, as part of the inaugural Global Peace Prayer Festival.

This historic milestone marks a significant step in addressing long-standing monastic inequality in the Vajrayāna tradition, where women have traditionally been limited to novice status.

The ordination will be led by the Je Khenpo and will conclude the multi-day festival that brings together practitioners, teachers, and leaders from all Buddhist traditions in a shared aspiration for peace
