37 Factors that Lead to Awakening,
Part 2: The Four Right Endeavors
Meditation and Dhamma reflection with Ven. Kaccayana Bhikkhuni

This week we continue a series introducing the 37 Bodhipakkhiya Dhammas: qualities that are conducive to awakening. The Buddha often instructed his disciples in these 37 as a summary of his whole teaching, saying:

"Each and every one of you should train in the things I have taught from my direct knowledge, that is: the four kinds of mindfulness meditation, the four right efforts, the four bases of psychic power, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven awakening factors, and the noble eightfold path. You should train in these things in harmony, appreciating each other, without dispute."

Please join us to honor Ayya Gunasari with our practice:

“Paṭipatti pūja” is a gesture of respect for our Kalyanamittas, our spiritual benefactors - honoring them with the highest and most beneficial kind of respect. It is the offering of our Dhamma practice, listening to and contemplating the Dhamma and training our minds through meditation.

On Saturday June 13th, Dhammadharini will be offering a day-long retreat at Wat Buddhanusorn in Fremont. As part of this retreat, we will be offering the merit of our practice for Ayyā Guṇasārī Mahātherī, the first Burmese woman to ordain as a Bhikkhunī in modern times and a long-time friend of the Dhammadharini community. She passed away on the evening of April 30th at the age of 93, with 22 vassas as a Bhikkhunī.
Ayyā Gunasari’s memorial service will be on June 13th at Mahapajapati Monastery in Southern California. For those who are unable to attend the memorial, we will honor her with our practice in Fremont.

Visit the Dhammadharini website to learn more about the retreat, and sign up.

Venerable Kaccayana and Venerable Thavira attended an event Saturday morning in Santa Rosa, organized by the Zen Peacemakers -- a community gathering to bear witness and honor the people who have lost their lives in contact with ICE since January 2025.
It was a beautiful gathering with a mix of emotions, as we all try to process the suffering associated with this loss. But good to be doing it together in community.
