"Stories like KJ’s remind us that when people are met with support, dignity, and community, lasting change is possible." What a wonderful story! Massanutten Presbyterian Church supports both Open Doors and Way to Go.

🚗 Congratulations to KJ, one of our dedicated guests at Open Doors 🚗

For the past year, KJ has been working closely with our Client Services Advocate, Shilpa, showing incredible determination and commitment to building a path toward independence.

Today, we’re proud to celebrate a major milestone: KJ has obtained his own vehicle through partnership with Way to Go, Inc.. With reliable transportation, he can now consistently get to work and move more freely within the community.

Transportation is one of the systemic barriers many individuals experiencing homelessness face each day. Moments like this reflect not only KJ’s perseverance, but also the power of partnership and community support in creating lasting change.

Shilpa shared:
“This has been one of the longest cases I have worked on… It has been incredibly meaningful to support someone who has remained engaged, made consistent progress, and taken an active role in his journey toward stability and success. It has truly been an honor to work with him.”

Stories like KJ’s remind us that when people are met with support, dignity, and community, lasting change is possible.

"For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there until they have watered the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose
and succeed in the thing for which I sent it."

Virtual Dementia Tour
Come experience the Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) at MPC on Thursday, October 23rd. This is an evidence-based method of building a greater understanding of dementia. VDT “uses patented sensory tools and instruction based on research conducted by P.K. Beville, M.S., a specialist in geriatrics and the founder of Second Wind Dreams®. During a Virtual Dementia Tour experience, trained facilitators guide participants outfitted with patented devices that alter their senses while trying to complete everyday tasks and exercises. The Tour enables caregivers to experience the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face, and use the experience to provide better person-centered care.” More information about the VDT can be found on the Second Wind Dreams website, or you can contact VDT Clinical Manager Melora Jackson to answer any questions you may have. Lastly, to register for the upcoming tour at MPC, you can visit the VPAS website.

On Monday, September 22, the Home Alone “Let's Eat” group met for the first time. The group had a wonderful time of fellowship, and in 2 1/2 hours, prepared 36 dinners and 10 quarts of soup. Everyone was able to take home three large meals and a quart of soup.
Additionally, they were able to provide meals for one of our church families who is currently in need. The group would love to have others come to join them! This past month, the group included individuals who live alone, as well as some empty nesters, and they plan to hold a meeting in October. If you are interested, please email Julia Sensabaugh at [email protected] or call 540 248-1002.
