On Sunday Incarnation’s Lay Preacher, Jim Thompson, gave the sermon and encouraged us all to offer “radical hospitality and grace” in our church, our communities, and our lives. We also celebrated Mary Lynn’s birthday with a prayer from Rev Keith.

Today we welcomed Rev. Keith to Incarnation as our rector. In his sermon he reminded us all of the importance of forgiveness. Our choir and musicians provided beautiful music for the service. We also celebrated the back to school season with the annual Blessing of the Backpacks.

Today, we pause to remember, honor, and pray on the solemn anniversary of September 11, 2001. We hold in our hearts the precious lives lost, the bravery of the first responders, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

Jim Thompson gave today’s sermon that started with today’s reading from Paul’s Letter to the Romans and ended with a tribute to Dolly Parton.

“Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.”

Jim continued, “I think Paul would have loved Dolly Parton….her life was not just about composing and singing love songs…but yes it was about that…it was about extending and sharing that agape type of love that Paul writes…sharing it in so many ways for so many people.”

What a great message for us all to consider.

Thank you to our wonderful Search Committee!

Gracious and loving God, source of all wisdom and grace:
• We thank you for the members of our Search Committee: for their vision, their faithfulness, and the many hours they spent in prayer, listening, and hard work.
• You turned their hearts; through times of uncertainty and hope, they trusted your-direction.
• We praise you for sustaining them with patience, strength, and a un-ifying love for one another and for this church.
• Now that their sacred task is complete and a new shepherd Father Keith has been called to lead us, shower your richest blessings upon each committee member.
• Refresh their spirits, heal their weariness, and prosper the work of their hands.
• Continue to guide our whole parish as we welcome our new rector, knit together in peace and mutual affection, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
• Amen.

Yesterday we celebrated and prayed for Marlene as she became a United States Citizen!

“Bestow upon her wisdom and patience as she takes her place in this nation, and grant that we all may live together in mutual love, respect, and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.”

We were so blessed to have Jim Thompson give today’s homily. Jim’s inquisitive nature leads us all to a humorous crossroads. Today it was a “Mary Magdalene Moment” and everyone’s favorite candy, M&Ms.

From the homily:
“Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: ‘I have seen the Lord!’ To me, this is when Jesus is finally revealed to all of us as the Messiah…the Son of God. Folks, I’m calling this a Mary Magdeline Moment…..moments when we see Christ in ourselves, when we see Christ in others….moments when we ‘See the Lord.’”

It was a beautiful service on Sunday. Rev Nancy gave a sermon to encourage us to recognize the growth we’ve experienced over the past 2 years.

We also enjoyed some beautiful music from our Bell Choir and our Director of Music Ministry played the Harp during communion. Unfortunately I did not get pictures or videos of either of these performances.

We welcomed Gary from a neighboring parish to tell us about a program called Education for Ministry. Our Warden, Bryce told us about a summer clean up day on Saturday morning, 8/15.
