Join us Sunday at 4pm for our continuing discussion of Christian nationalism at First Baptist Church of Pendleton .

According to recent research, roughly one in three Americans now qualifies as a Christian nationalism adherent or sympathizer. In the American South that number approaches one in two. But what happens to those who DON'T fit into the vision Nationalists have for America? And what happens to those who oppose it?

Peace Church believes in the kind of love Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers taught us — the love that sees everyone.

Snuffleupagus was Big Bird’s friend long before anyone else could see him. Mr. Rogers looked straight into the camera and told YOU that you were special, exactly as you were.

That’s the love we try to practice here. The people the world overlooks? We see you. You belong here.

"We are living in a moment when the name of Christ is being attached to policies and attitudes that exclude, diminish, and harm some of the most vulnerable people among us. The church has a responsibility to say something about that, clearly and without apology."

These are words from our pastor, Danielle Elliott, who will be starting a sermon series addressing Christian nationalism this Sunday, May 3. We hope you will join us as we discuss the church's true mission and purpose.

Join us for something new this third Sunday of April - Church in the Garden behind First Baptist Church of Pendleton. This will be a low key gathering where we come together to share our hearts, minds and lives with our faith community - to express and experience the love and care we have for each other and our world. If you would like, please bring a favorite poem, reading, Scripture, song or devotion that has meant something in your journey; it may be exactly what someone else needs to hear.

And because Christian fellowship almost always includes breaking bread together as our Lord taught us, you may bring a picnic food item so that we may feed each other physically as well as spiritually and emotionally (something easy to hold, doesn't require utensils, etc, like chicken tenders, tea size sandwiches, cookies). Peace will provide beverages. Hope to see you there as we experience a new thing this Easter season!

There is limited seating in the garden, so you may want to consider bringing a chair to sit on. Also, the forecast is for cooler weather, so bring a jacket or a blanket . . . just in case. Hope to see you there!!

Last year, the Peace family and the Sterner family lost our beloved Judy Sterner. Judy made people feel welcome the moment she met them. She was a true friend and a light we miss.

In her honor, Peace Church has donated a "friendship bench" to Pendleton Elementary School When a child needs a friend, or is lonely, they can sit on the bench and the other children know that there's a new friend to meet! We are so honored to remember our friend Judy in this way, knowing her spirit is present in every new friend made.
