This Sunday evening, May 31st, from 5:30-7:30 pm we're gathering for an all-church meal, a ministry partners meeting, and a classic kickball competition on the grounds to kick off our Summer. Dinner is provided and don't forget your own outdoor chair and bug spray. We're making memories, sharing vision, and praying together as one community!

This week we witnessed the most dramatic scene in the book of Jonah and one of the most remarkable moments in all of Scripture. Jonah enters Nineveh, the most feared and violent city of the ancient world, delivers a five-word message in Hebrew "In forty days Nineveh will be demolished!" and the entire city repents. It is a revival unprecedented in the Old Testament record. And it happened through the most reluctant preacher who ever lived, carrying the most minimal sermon ever recorded.

But the power was never in Jonah. It was in the Word, and in the God behind the Word. Nineveh's repentance confronts every assumption we carry about who is too far gone, too hostile, or too wicked to turn to God.

Something is forming all of us, all the time. Not dramatically. Not all at once. Just slowly, through repetition — the things we reach for when we’re restless, the content we consume when we’re
lonely, the habits we’ve built without quite deciding to. James K.A. Smith calls these ‘cultural liturgies.’ Paul called them ‘elemental spirits of the world.’ Same idea, different century: the practices we inhabit form the people we become. Happy Mother's Day! 💐

We honor our mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers. We honor the women who have cared for us and others like mothers. We celebrate you and thank you for what you do each day!

As we celebrate, we also know that for many, Mother's Day is difficult. You may be lamenting the loss of a child or mom. You may be longing for motherhood and that hasn't happened. We hurt with you, we grieve with you.

Whether today is filled with joy or sorrow - or even a mixture of both - know that you are held by the Savior who understands your heart and is walking with you every step of every day. You are loved!
