BECOMING HUMAN AGAIN: At the Table of Christ

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." (2 Cor 5:17)

What does it mean to be truly human? Our world tells us to discover ourselves, define ourselves, and create ourselves. But Scripture tells a much older and much better story.

We were created in God’s image, broken by sin, and in Christ, we are being made new.

Carl Trueman in his book, The Desecration of Man explains what we are seeing in our world today:

“In desecrating God, man has ironically desecrated himself.”

We cannot reject the God whose image we bear without eventually losing our understanding of ourselves.

This Sunday at Living Hope Community Church, we’ll gather around the Lord’s Table and consider the beautiful truth that Jesus doesn’t save us from being human He restores us to what we were created to be.
After the service we also have our monthly meal. The theme this month is Comfort Food. Bring your favorite comfort food!

A Prayer for this Sunday:
Lord Jesus, quiet all the voices that tell us who we should be, and remind us who we are in You. As we come to Your Table, turn our eyes again to the cross. Make us new, make us one, and teach us what it means to be truly human. In Jesus Name, Amen.

This Sunday at 10:00 AM at Living Hope Community Church, we continue our Matthew: King of Hearts series in Matthew 15:29–31 with a message called “The King Who Restores.”

The blind see. The lame walk. The mute speak. And suddenly the promises of Isaiah are unfolding before the crowd.

Brokenness is real in our lives but the King gets the final word.

Join us Sunday at 10:00 AM as we look at the restoring heart and power of Jesus.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, bring us to Your feet this Sunday with all that is broken, weary, and beyond our ability to fix. Open our eyes to see You as the promised King who restores, and let Your grace lead us into worship. Amen.

This Sunday at Living Hope Community Church, we’re back in our King of Hearts series in Matthew 15:21–28 with a message called “The King Who Honors Great Faith.”

What does great faith look like when Jesus seems silent? This passage reminds us that great faith is not confidence in how deserving we are, but confidence in how merciful Jesus is.

Prayer:

Lord, strengthen our faith when we do not understand what You are doing. Help us trust Your heart, seek Your mercy, and rest in the abundance of Your grace. Prepare our hearts to hear Your Word this Sunday.
Amen.

This Sunday at Living Hope Community Church, we’ll continue our King of Hearts series through the Gospel of Matthew as we explore Matthew 15:10–20 in a message titled:

The King Who Cleans the Heart

We spend so much time trying to fix what’s on the outside, our image, our circumstances, our habits. But Jesus lovingly points us to the real issue: the condition of our hearts.

The good news is that the King who exposes our hearts is also the King who came to cleanse them.

The deepest problem in our lives isn’t what surrounds us but what resides within us, and only King Jesus can cleanse the human heart.

If you’re weary from trying to hold everything together, if you’re searching for peace, or if you simply want to know Jesus more deeply, we’d love for you to join us. Throughout this series we’ve been returning to His invitation in Matthew 11:28–30:

“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Come discover the rest that only the King can give.

Prayer for This Sunday

Heavenly Father, prepare our hearts for Your Word. Remove our pride, soften what has become hard, and help us come honestly before You. Thank You that Jesus doesn’t simply point out our need, He meets it with His grace. May every person who walks through our doors encounter the love of Christ, hear the truth of the Gospel, and find true rest in the King who cleanses hearts. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Sermon Series: Matthew King of Hearts
“When Religion Misses the Heart”
Matthew 15:1–9

It’s possible to know all the right words, attend all the right services, and keep all the right routines… yet still have a heart that is far from God.

In Matthew 15, Jesus lovingly exposes the danger of outward religion without inward transformation. He didn’t come simply to make us more religious. He came to bring our hearts back to God, where true rest is found.

If you’ve ever felt weary from trying to measure up, if your faith has become routine, or if you’re longing to draw closer to Christ, this message is for you.

Join us this Sunday as we continue our King of Hearts series and discover that religion measures hands, but Jesus transforms hearts and transformed hearts find true rest.

A Prayer for This Sunday

Heavenly Father,

As we prepare our hearts for worship this Sunday, draw us close to You. Keep us from merely going through the motions, and help us come with humble, open, and surrendered hearts. May Your Word search us, strengthen us, and remind us that true rest is found not in religious performance but in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Bless every person who will gather with us. Encourage the weary, restore the wandering, strengthen believers, and draw those who do not yet know Christ to Yourself. May everything we do bring glory to King Jesus.

We look forward with expectation to what You will do among us.

This Sunday in our King of Hearts series, we’ll be in Matthew 14:34–36.

We're asking the question: What does a community look like when it truly knows its King?

When Jesus arrived in Gennesaret, people recognized Him, spread the news, brought the hurting to Him, and trusted His compassionate heart.

Their community was transformed not because they had all the answers, but because they knew exactly where to take their needs.

The same invitation is before us today.

A community transformed by Jesus is a community that recognizes the King, brings people to the King, and trusts the compassion of the King.

A Father’s Day Meditation

The King Who Turns Hearts Toward Home

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers…” — Malachi 4:5–6

One of the beautiful promises of God’s Kingdom is that the King does not merely change circumstances—He changes hearts.

Sin has a way of creating distance between people. Pride, hurt, disappointment, busyness, and selfishness can slowly divide fathers and children, families and generations. But the Lord delights in restoring what sin has broken.

Through Jesus Christ, the King of Hearts, God is still turning hearts today. He softens hard hearts. He heals wounded hearts. He reconciles divided hearts. He teaches fathers to love with humility and children to respond with honor. He draws families closer to one another as they draw closer to Him.

This Father’s Day, let us thank God for faithful fathers and father figures who have invested in our lives. Let us pray for fathers who are carrying heavy responsibilities. Let us encourage the next generation of men to follow Christ. And let us ask the Lord to continue His work of restoration in our homes and in our church family.

The hope of the Gospel is not simply that God forgives sinners. The hope of the Gospel is that Jesus is making all things new—including our relationships.

May the King of Hearts turn our hearts toward Him and toward one another.

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your faithful love. Thank You for the fathers, grandfathers, and spiritual fathers You have given us. Continue Your work of turning hearts toward one another and toward Yourself. Heal what is broken, strengthen what is weak, and help our families reflect the love and grace of Christ. Amen.
