The Burnt Swamp Baptist Association Statement Regarding Gambling as Approved by the BSBA Preachers and Deacons Meeting and the BSBA Executive Council:

The Burnt Swamp Baptist Association affirms that Scripture teaches believers to honor God through faithful stewardship, diligent work, and wise use of the resources entrusted to them. Because all possessions ultimately belong to God, Christians are called to live with integrity, contentment, and responsibility in their financial and personal decisions. Scripture states, “The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1, KJV), and “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2, KJV).

The Burnt Swamp Baptist Association opposes gambling because it often promotes dependence upon chance and the pursuit of quick financial gain rather than biblical principles of labor, stewardship, and trust in God's provision. The Association expresses concern that gambling and gaming activities based on chance can contribute to harmful consequences such as financial hardship, addiction, weakened families, and exploitation of vulnerable individuals. Biblical principles encourage labor, responsible management of resources, and trust in God's provision rather than dependence upon the pursuit of quick financial gain. Scripture teaches, “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase” (Proverbs 13:11, KJV), and “For the love of money is the root of all evil…” (1 Timothy 6:10a, KJV).

The Burnt Swamp Baptist Association encourages its churches to teach biblical stewardship, generosity, and financial responsibility while also ministering with compassion to individuals and families affected by gambling-related problems. The Association further calls believers to demonstrate lives marked by faithfulness, contentment, and confidence in the provision and hope found in Jesus Christ. Scripture declares, “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5, KJV), and “Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2, KJV).
