The Badge of Love - “We know that we have passed from death to life because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.” - 1 John 3:14
Police officers have one of the most important jobs in our society. Their duties focus on protecting people and property. They patrol the areas they are assigned, respond to calls for help, enforce laws, make arrests, issue citations, and much, much more. One of the ways you can tell someone is an officer of the law is by the badge that they wear.
There is a badge that identifies Christians that we can wear each and every day – it is the badge of love. This badge will do two things. First, it will assure us that we are followers of Jesus. “We know that we have passed from life to death because we love each other.” Then, it will also tell others that we are followers of Christ. “By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” How did the early church filled with poor and for the most part illiterate, non-influential people turn the world upside down for Jesus? How did these Christians become a magnet that drew millions of people into its fold? They followed Christ’s command to love one another.
Listen to a man named Aristides, who in the early days of the Church was sent by Emperor Hadrian to spy on these strange people known as “Christians.” Having gone and observed them, he came back to the Emperor with these immortal words that have echoed down throughout history, “Behold! How they love one another!”
The number one mark of a Christian in the 1st Century was not theological knowledge, religious clothing, church membership, or even church attendance. It was love. When people walked into those early houses that functioned as churches, whether they were slave or free, Jew or Gentile, male or female, rich or poor, they saw people who loved each other in a way they had never seen before. And they wanted to be a part of that kind of love.
There is no bigger magnet and no greater attractive force to an unbelieving world than when we love each other as Jesus has loved us. Amen! This will be my Church's mark too.

Share the Love - “By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35
How is the world going to know that Jesus really makes a difference? How is the unbeliever going to know that this faith called “Christianity” is real? It won’t be by how much we say that we love God or even by how much we say that we love Jesus. Those are just words. Jesus said the way you can have a magnetic faith that draws people to you, and to Christ, is by the way you love others.
The world is not going to know that we are followers of Jesus because of a bumper sticker on our car, or a lapel pin on our coat, or a cross around our neck. They are going to know it and believe it when they see us loving each other in a way they are not loved by the outside world.
How do you know from just looking at someone on the outside that they are a follower of Jesus? Many of us were raised to believe that if a person didn’t drink, smoke, go to bars, or do X, Y, or Z, that would be the way people would know he was a Christian. That is not what Jesus taught.
The world will be a lot more persuaded by what we do in love for each other than by what we choose not to do by ourselves. Love can be adopting one of the millions of orphans in the world who have no one to love them. Love could be taking just what we spend on ice cream and helping to save the millions of people who die every year from malaria, or giving fresh water to the 3 billion people who don’t have it. Love can be visiting the sick, feeding the hungry, and clothing the poor.
The ways and opportunities to love like Jesus are endless. The problem is not a lack of opportunity, but a lack of willingness to be obedient to Christ’s command. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” John 13:34. Obedience to this command is how others will be drawn to Jesus. It is not our job to save anyone but to love everyone. We are servants, not saviors. As we walk in obedience to Christ’s command, He will use our lives to draw people to Himself. What greater purpose could my life serve than this?

Show Your Love - “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34b
Jesus not only tells us that we are to love one another, but He also tells us how we are to love one another. We are to emulate His example. How He loves us is how we are to love others. How He loves me is how I am to love you. How He loves you is how you are to love me. So how did Jesus love? If I had to put it in one word, I would say, sacrificially. Jesus loved sacrificially.
No one in history has ever loved like Jesus loves. He always, without exception, put others before Himself. He didn’t love people for what He could get from them; He loved them for what He could give to them as a mother does. He didn’t choose His disciples for what they could do for Him. He chose them for what He could do for them. For three years He always put them first. That may seem an impossible way to love. But if you are a follower of Jesus you not only have the Spirit of Christ in you, but you also have the love of Christ in you.
The kind of love that Jesus had was not merely in word, but also in deed. He showed His love by healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and ministering to the hurting. The most magnificent display of His love was His death on the cross for our sins.
If we will just choose to open our eyes and look around, there are always opportunities to show God’s love. There are needs all around us…people hurting, confused, needy, and lost. Jesus has commanded us to love others. This means whether they are of a different color, political persuasion, or socio-economic level we are to love them. And we are to love them as Jesus has loved us.
If you want to know real love, don’t look at culture – look at Christ. Don’t look at Hollywood – look at heaven. We have a mandate from heaven to love one another and we have the model from Jesus on how to do it. There are no excuses…if you have received the love of God in Christ you must share that same love with others.

The Secret to True Sacrifice
“When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” Colossians 3:4
If you were to ask me today what the secrets to sacrifice are, I would start with this: Jesus doesn’t want just a part of you; He wants all of you. He doesn’t desire a fraction of your life; He wants to be your life. Let that sink in for a moment.
Colossians 3:4 declares, “When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” Did you catch that? Jesus isn’t just a part of your life; He is your life. He desires to permeate every aspect of your being, every corner of your existence.
So why does this matter? Because when you offer God only some of yourself, when you hold back certain areas of your life from His control, you’re selling yourself short on the blessings of God. You see, true sacrifice means giving all of yourself, withholding nothing from the One who gave everything for you.
Let me ask you this: Why shouldn’t you withhold anything from God? It’s simple—because God didn’t withhold anything from you. Think about it. He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for your sins. He held nothing back in His pursuit of your salvation and reconciliation.
When we grasp the magnitude of God’s sacrificial love for us, it compels us to respond in kind. It motivates us to surrender every aspect of our lives to Him, knowing that His plans for us are good and His ways are higher than ours.
What are you holding back from God today? What areas of your life have you been reluctant to surrender? It’s time to lay them all at the feet of Jesus. Offer Him your fears, your doubts, your dreams, your desires—everything. Trust that He is faithful to fulfill His promises and that He will work all things together for your good.
As you commit to surrendering all to Christ, you’ll discover the secret to true sacrifice—a life lived fully and completely for the glory of God. And in that surrender, you’ll find true freedom, joy, and fulfillment in Him.

Surrendering Our Non-Negotiables
“He said, ‘Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.'” Genesis 22:12
As we dive deeper into the story of Abraham and Isaac, let’s consider a crucial question: What are we withholding from God?
Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac reveals a profound truth about surrender and trust. God spared Isaac because Abraham didn’t withhold his son. He was willing to give up the most precious and important thing he had, demonstrating his unwavering faith and fear of God.
In Abraham’s mind and heart, everything he possessed, including his beloved son, was on the table for the Lord. He had no non-negotiables with God. But do we share the same level of surrender?
Take a moment to reflect on your own life. What are the non-negotiables you have with the Lord? Are there areas where you say, “God, you can have this, but you can’t have that”? Are there aspects of your life that you keep off-limits from God’s control?
Perhaps you’ve found yourself saying things like:
– “You can have my Sunday mornings, but the rest of the week is mine.”
– “You can be my Savior, but I’ll be the master of my own life.”
– “You can have my worship songs, but not my obedience, my faithfulness, my time, or my money.”
What are those non-negotiables in your life today? What are you withholding from God?
True surrender means laying down everything at the feet of Jesus—our desires, our plans, our dreams, even our fears and insecurities. It means trusting that God’s plans are greater than our own and surrendering control to His perfect will.
I want to challenge you to identify and surrender your non-negotiables to God. Let’s echo the faith of Abraham, who held nothing back from the Lord. As we do, may our lives become a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, as we walk in obedience and trust each day.

The Essence of Sacrifice - “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” – Romans 12:1
Sacrifice is a concept deeply ingrained in the fabric of faith. From the pages of Scripture to the altars of ancient temples, sacrifice has been a foundational aspect of worship. But what does it truly mean to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to God?
Paul provides us with an important reminder in Romans 12:1. He urges believers to present their bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. Yet, it’s not just about making a partial offering; it’s about presenting ourselves wholly to God – without withholding or withdrawing anything.
To please the Lord, we must present ourselves completely to Him. This means offering not only the aspects of our lives that are easy to surrender but also those that we naturally cling to. It’s about laying everything on the altar – our hopes, dreams, fears, and desires, and entrusting them fully to God’s care.
But how do we accomplish this? How do we ensure that our sacrifice is truly pleasing to God and not just a superficial gesture? The answer lies in understanding the essence of sacrifice.
In biblical times, sacrifices were offered on altars, sacred spaces where people encountered the presence of God. These altars were not merely physical structures but symbolic representations of surrender and devotion. When someone placed an offering on the altar, they were declaring their total dependence on God and their willingness to submit to His will.
Likewise, as modern-day believers, our lives are the altars upon which we present our sacrifices to God. Every decision we make, every action we take, they all have the potential to either honor or dishonor God. To be a living sacrifice means living a life that reflects our commitment to Him in every aspect.
Are you holding back certain areas of your life from God? Are there areas where you are reluctant to surrender control? Let’s remember that true worship involves presenting ourselves wholly to God, trusting that His plans for us are good and His ways are perfect.

Commitment vs Surrender - “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” – Romans 12:1
There’s a big difference between commitment and surrender, a truth I learned firsthand during a memorable experience in Egypt.
Standing before a predominantly Muslim congregation, I was sharing the Gospel through an interpreter. As the message came to its climax, I posed a question that I thought was straightforward: “Are you ready to commit your life to Jesus Christ today?” However, my interpreter hesitated and urged me to rephrase the question, emphasizing the importance of using a different word.
Later, when I asked about her insistence, she explained to me, “These people cannot think that God only requires a commitment. They need to know that God requires a total surrender.”
Commitment implies dedication and loyalty, but surrender goes much deeper. It involves relinquishing control and yielding one’s will completely to God. It’s not just about adding Jesus to our lives; it’s about yielding our entire lives to Him, allowing Him to lead and guide us in every aspect.
In Romans 12:1, Paul urges believers to offer their bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. This call to surrender echoes throughout Scripture, reminding us that true discipleship requires more than mere commitment – it demands surrender.
True surrender is costly and requires humility, but the blessings far outweigh the sacrifices. When we surrender our lives to God, we experience the fullness of His love, grace, and purpose. So, let’s make the intentional choice to embrace surrender as the pathway to deeper intimacy with our Heavenly Father, trusting that His plans far exceed our own and His faithfulness endures forever.

Drawing Near with Obedience - “Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.” – Ecclesiastes 5:1
Have you ever approached God in worship without obeying Him? Solomon’s words in Ecclesiastes 5 remind us of the importance of drawing near to God with obedience rather than offering sacrifices with the wrong motives.
Solomon emphasizes the significance of approaching God with the right intentions. To “draw near” to God implies a close relationship characterized by sincerity and obedience. It’s about approaching Him with reverence and a desire to align our lives with His will.
In contrast, offering the sacrifice of fools involves carelessly living throughout the week, speaking without listening, and failing to fulfill promises made to God. Solomon warns against these behaviors, highlighting the folly of approaching God with insincerity and disobedience.
Drawing near to God requires more than mere words or rituals; it necessitates a heart committed to obedience. We must not rush into His presence with empty words or hasty promises. Instead, we should approach Him with humility, recognizing His sovereignty and our dependence on Him.
Solomon’s admonition to guard our steps echoes throughout Scripture, reminding us to approach God with reverence and obedience. Let us not be like the fools who offer sacrifices without understanding the weight of their actions. Instead, may we draw near to God with sincerity and obedience, seeking His will above our own.
As we prepare to worship, make an effort to reflect on your own obedience to God’s commands. Are there areas in your life where you need to align your actions with His Word? Commit to obeying Him wholeheartedly, knowing that true worship begins with a surrendered and obedient heart.

Approaching Worship with Intention - “Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.” – Ecclesiastes 5:1
Have you ever entered into a place of worship without truly preparing your heart and mind for the encounter with God? Solomon’s words in Ecclesiastes 5 resonate deeply, reminding us of the importance of approaching worship with intentionality and reverence.
Solomon urges us to “guard our steps when we go to the house of God.” This isn’t merely about physical steps but about the pattern of our lives—the decisions we make, the attitudes we hold, and the sincerity of our worship. It’s about coming prepared to encounter God in a real and meaningful way.
I want you to understand the imagery of the ancient steps leading up to the Temple in Jerusalem. Each step was intentionally designed to be different, requiring careful attention from those who ascended them. Similarly, our approach to worship should be intentional and deliberate, not haphazard or thoughtless.
When we enter into God’s presence, we shouldn’t do so casually or without consideration. Rather, we should approach Him with reverence and awe, ready to engage with Him personally and relationally.
Worship isn’t merely a ritual or routine; it’s a sacred opportunity to encounter the living God. It takes more than prepared leaders; it requires a prepared group of people. That preparation begins long before we enter the doors of the church—it starts with the condition of our hearts throughout the week.
Before entering into a state of worship, prepare your heart, mind, and life to encounter God in a real and transformative way. Our worship should be genuine and pleasing to God, reflecting the sincerity of our devotion and the depth of our love for Him.

Embracing True Relationship - “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain…” Matthew 15:8-9
Throughout history, many believers have struggled with the limitations of religion, including King Solomon in his pursuit of life’s best.
Solomon, known for his wisdom, discovered firsthand the emptiness of religion without a genuine relationship. He realized that merely going through the motions of religious rituals and traditions wasn’t enough to satisfy the deepest longings of his soul. It’s a sobering truth that echoes through the ages.
In Matthew 15:8-9, Jesus Himself addresses this issue, warning against empty worship that lacks true heart devotion. He speaks of people who honor Him with their lips but whose hearts are far from Him. Their religious practices are in vain because they lack an authentic connection with God.
It’s a powerful reminder that Jesus didn’t come to establish a new religion; He came to do away with religion as humanity had known it. His mission was to usher in a new way of relating to God—one based on a genuine relationship rather than empty religious rituals.
Think about it: religion can sometimes become a barrier to true intimacy with God. When we focus solely on external observances and traditions, we miss out on the heart-to-heart connection that God desires with us. We become like the religious leaders of Jesus’ time, more concerned with outward appearances than with inward transformation.
But Jesus offers us something different. He invites us into a deep, personal relationship with Him—one that transcends religious formalities and rituals. In Him, we find fulfillment, purpose, and true intimacy with the Creator of the universe.
Let go of empty religion and embrace the freedom and intimacy of a genuine relationship with Jesus. It’s not about following rules or traditions; it’s about knowing and experiencing the love of God in a real and transformative way. In Him, you’ll find the true fulfillment your soul craves.

Beyond Religion - “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” John 14:6
Have you ever felt like your religious practices were leaving you empty and unsatisfied? You’re not alone. Even King Solomon, known for his wisdom, grappled with this struggle.
Solomon pursued every avenue imaginable in his quest for fulfillment, including religion. Yet, he discovered that religion alone couldn’t satisfy the deepest longings of his soul. Perhaps you’ve experienced a similar sense of disillusionment with religion.
You might wonder, “Isn’t religion supposed to bring meaning and purpose to our lives?” While religion offers structure and tradition, it often falls short of providing true satisfaction. It’s merely “man’s attempt to get to God.”
But here’s the good news: our faith isn’t centered around religion—it’s centered around a relationship with Jesus. Jesus isn’t just another religious figure; He is the way, the truth, and the life. He represents “God’s attempt to get to man.”
Understand the difference between religion and relationships. Religion can sometimes be associated with extremism and violence, as seen in groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. But our message is different. It’s about inviting people into a life-changing relationship with Jesus.
If you’ve ever felt disillusioned by religion, know that there’s more to faith than rituals and rules. Jesus offers us a personal relationship that brings true fulfillment, purpose, and joy. He invites us to experience His love, grace, and forgiveness in a key way.
Let go of religious obligations and embrace the freedom and intimacy of a genuine relationship with Jesus. It’s not about following a set of rules—it’s about walking with the Savior who offers abundant life. In Him, you’ll find the fulfillment your soul craves.
