✝️ Today, we remember a milestone in our South Florida Catholic community. On October 7, 1958, Bishop Coleman F. Carroll was installed at St. Mary Cathedral as the first Bishop of Miami. The newly established diocese brought together approximately 185,000 Catholics in 51 parishes across 16 counties. In 1968, Miami became an Archdiocese & Carroll became its first Archbishop. He continued serving the local Church until his death in 1977.

His ministry helped shape a growing Catholic Church: opening parishes, schools, establishing St. John Vianney & St. Vincent de Paul seminaries along with welcoming Cuban refugees seeking safety with a new beginning. During those years, Catholic Charities also helped care for more than 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban children through Operation Pedro Pan.

68 years after his installation, our St. Edward parish family gives thanks for the clergy, religious & faithful whose dedication helped build our Catholic community in South Florida. 🙏
