George Whitefield was known for repeatedly preaching the necessity of the new birth. A woman once asked him why he continually emphasized the same message: “Ye must be born again.” His answer was simple: “Because ye must be born again.”

His response captures the urgency of Christ’s words in John 3:3: “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” The new birth is not an optional Christian experience or a secondary doctrine—it is a divine necessity. Religious activity, morality, church membership, and outward profession cannot substitute for regeneration.

The message of the gospel is therefore not merely, “Improve yourself,” but “You must be born again.” Before we ask how much we know about Christ, we must ask whether we have truly been made alive by Christ.

The question is not whether we have heard the gospel many times, but whether we have experienced the new birth.

Parenting 101 advice from the Prince of Preachers……

Charles Spurgeon’s statement, “As soon as your children can understand anything, let them know about Christ,” carries a timeless challenge for Christian parents.

Children do not need to wait until they are older before hearing about Jesus. From their earliest years, they can be taught the truths of Scripture, the holiness of God, the seriousness of sin, the love of Christ, and the good news of the gospel.

Christian parenting is not merely about teaching children to behave well. Our ultimate goal is to point them to Christ. We teach them the Bible, pray with them, worship with them, and demonstrate through our lives what it means to follow Jesus.

As parents, we cannot regenerate our children or produce saving faith in them—salvation belongs to the Lord. But we are responsible to faithfully sow the seed of God's Word.

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” — Proverbs 22:6

Let us not wait for the “perfect time” to teach our children about Christ. Tell them about Jesus while they are young. Open the Bible. Pray with them. Teach them the gospel. Point them to Christ.

The greatest inheritance we can give our children is not wealth, success, or possessions, but the knowledge of Jesus Christ and His glorious gospel.

What is this doctrine or teaching of election and predestination mean? Why is it so critically important to your confidence, comfort and worship as one yearns to come to Christ or is already a Christian?

Come to CCC this Sunday and find out as we launch our new series, “Christian ID” from the book of Ephesians… go to christcomchurch.org for more.

The doctrine of election is not meant to promote pride but to magnify the grace of God. If salvation ultimately depends on God's sovereign mercy rather than human merit, then all boasting is excluded. As Scripture declares, "So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy" (Romans 9:16).

George Whitefield's point is that denying God's sovereign election can subtly shift the focus from God's grace to human ability. If the decisive cause of salvation lies within us, then we have at least some reason to glory in ourselves. But the Bible teaches that salvation is "by grace... not a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:8–9).

Election humbles the sinner and exalts the Savior. It reminds us that every aspect of our salvation—from beginning to end—is the work of God's sovereign grace. Therefore, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 1:31).

The Christian life is not merely saying "no" to sin, but increasingly saying "yes" to Christ. A greater love displaces lesser loves.

Sometimes God doesn’t take us out of the storm because He wants to be with us as we go through it. God’s providence is always for our good and for His glory in any situation we are in. Let us trust in Him.
