Just a Nugget I got this morning from taking medicine: Drink Some Water With It
As you all know, I’m still recovering from surgery, and I thank God for where I am. He has truly been good to me.
However, one thing I absolutely do not like is taking medicine and drinking water. 😂 (And resting…but that’s beside the point.)
I’m currently taking quite a few pills, and one of the things I constantly hear is, “Make sure you drink plenty of water with your medicine.” Water helps the medicine go down, helps prevent choking and blockages, protects your organs, and helps your body properly process and absorb what you’ve taken.
Well, this morning, while taking the pills I hate and drinking the water I don’t like, the Holy Spirit dropped something in my spirit.
Throughout Scripture, water is often used as a picture of the Holy Spirit. Jesus even spoke of the Spirit as rivers of living water flowing from within us (John 7:37–39).
And this thought came to me:
Maybe the Word we read daily isn’t properly flowing through our lives because we aren’t drinking enough Water after we read.
Sure, we read a verse. We may even read a chapter. We highlight it. Post it. Quote it.
But after we read it, do we sit with the Holy Spirit?
Do we allow Him to teach us what we just read?
Do we allow Him to convict us with it?
Do we allow Him to show us where it applies?
Do we give Him time to work that Word into the areas of our lives that need healing, correction, growth, and transformation?
The Word is already living and powerful. The problem isn’t the medicine. Sometimes we simply haven’t allowed the Holy Spirit to work what we’ve consumed through us.
Maybe some of us aren’t suffering from a lack of Word.
Maybe we’re spiritually dehydrated.
We have sermons.
We have Scriptures.
We have Bible studies.
We have notes.
But we need WATER.
So the next time you open your Bible, don’t just rush through the Scripture and move on with your day.
Read the Word and then drink some Water with it.
Sit with the Holy Spirit and ask:
“Holy Spirit, what are You saying to me through what I just read? Where does this Word need to work in me?”
Because the goal isn’t simply to get the Word in us.
The goal is for the Word to work through us.
Just a nugget from a Pastor who still doesn’t like taking his medicine or drinking his water. 😂
