Welcome to the Pelham church of Christ in Pelham, Tennessee.
About us:
Pelham is a peaceful, rural, close-knit agricultural valley community nestled in the scenic foothills of Middle Tennessee. As a small, unincorporated community in Grundy County, many families here have deep, multi-generational roots. Strong community bonds and genuine care for one another are a way of life. The Pelham church of Christ is one of the oldest congregations in the county, established in 1891, and still meeting on the same grounds today. Each first day of the week, we come together for Bible study and worship.
What We Believe:
We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God and the sole, infallible authority in all matters of faith and practice. Because of this, we strive to teach and practice only what is authorized in Scripture (2 Timothy 3:15–17; 1 Peter 4:11). We are committed to neither adding to nor taking away from God’s divinely inspired Word (Revelation 22:18–19).
Bible Study:
Our Bible studies are designed to be edifying and rooted firmly in Scripture. We seek to rightly divide the Word of God (2 Timothy 2:15) without twisting or misrepresenting it (2 Peter 3:16). Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, we encourage careful study and examination of the Scriptures. Our goal is to grow in understanding, strengthen faith, and encourage love and good works (Hebrews 10:24–25).
Our Worship:
As New Testament Christians, we must worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:21-24). God's word is truth (John 17:17). And Jesus as the Word is the truth (John 1:1; 14:6). Therefore, we worship in spirit and truth by worshiping according to the manner prescribed in God's word. If we attempt to worship God according to the commandments and traditions of men, our worship is vain (Matthew 15:8-9; Colossians 2:20-23). When you visit with us, you will find that our worship is based on the truth revealed in God's word. We neither add to, nor take away from the worship commanded by God in the New Testament (cf. Acts 2:42). Our worship on the first day of the week is orderly (1 Corinthians 14:40) consisting of:
Prayers (Ephesians 6:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:17).
A ca****la congregational singing (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).
Taking up a contribution/giving of our means (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).
Preaching and teaching (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 20:7).
And partaking of the Lord's Supper every first day of the week (Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:17-33).
Salvation in Christ: What Must I Do to Be Saved?
We teach salvation as revealed by Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit inspired apostles in the New Testament. This includes:
Believing with all your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (John 8:24; Hebrews 11:6)
Sincerely repenting of past sins (Luke 13:3; Acts 2:38)
Confessing faith in Christ (Romans 10:10)
Being baptized (fully immersed in water) in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 3:21)
Remaining faithful to God unto death (Revelation 2:10)
