Have you ever visited the Concordia Seminary?
Behind the leafy streets of Clayton sits a campus that looks like it was lifted straight out of Oxford, with a hundred years of quiet learning inside its stone walls. 🏰
Concordia Seminary traces its beginnings to a one room log cabin in tiny Altenburg, Missouri, in 1839, founded by the same Saxon Lutheran immigrants who had just landed in St. Louis. The seminary grew, moved into the city, and in 1926 opened its grand Collegiate Gothic campus in Clayton, dedicated before a crowd of some seventy five thousand people.
For a century it has trained pastors and teachers who fanned out across the country, while its towers, arches and quadrangle became a beloved landmark just west of the city line. This year the Clayton campus marks its hundredth anniversary. ⛪
