Mid-Week Stewardship Thought

God’s Financial Counsel
Money plays an important part in our lives. We make financial decisions daily. We can use money for good, or we can choose to use it as a tool for wrong purposes.

Since so much of life revolves around financial dealings and decisions, it is wise for us to learn how God’s Word counsels us in this area. For example, Jesus said, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will be dishonest with much” (Luke 16:10 NIV). Solomon wrote, “In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has” (Proverbs 21:20). God’s Word is where we will find the best financial counsel.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are the source of all good things. Help me to be faithful in the management of all that You entrust to me. Lord, grant me wisdom to know how I can best use my money so that my treasures can be used to further Your kingdom. In Your precious name I pray. Amen.

Blessings on your stewardship journey!

Mid-Week Stewardship Thought

God Is the Source of All Things
Remembering that God owns everything prompts a remarkable shift in our view of stewardship. Usually when we think of stewardship, we define it as our giving to God or to the church something that belongs to us.

However, stewardship is just the reverse, because it is our freely using, enjoying, and giving what already belongs to God. I will not accept a bull from your house or goats from your folds. For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine. “If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine. “ Psalm 50:9-12 The air we breathe, the water we drink, the land on which we live are all gifts from God. All that we have are gifts we enjoy out of God’s love for us.

Prayer: Lord, You are the owner of the animals in the forest and all the cattle on a thousand hills. Help us to acknowledge You as the owner of all things. We thank You for allowing us to be Your stewards and grant us faith to be faithful in our stewardship. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Blessings on your journey as a steward!

Mid-week Stewardship Thought

Is your Light Shining?

Jesus, the true light, told us, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). It is His light within us being reflected that allows us to carry out His command: “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father Who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). We are called to keep the light that God gives us burning brightly and shining for the entire world to see. “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house” (Matthew 5:15). Nourished through Word and Sacrament, we can be faithful reflections of God’s light.

Prayer: Dear God, Father almighty, Your light gives light to a dark world. May Your light within me bring light to those around me. In Jesus’ precious name I pray.

Blessings on your journey as a steward!

Mid-Week Stewardship Thought

He Is Risen!
The women went to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body. Confused and distressed at finding an empty tomb, they were further bewildered to hear the words of “a young man…dressed in a white robe… ‘[Jesus] has risen; He is not here…Go, tell His disciples and Peter…” (Mark 16:5-7).

The Season of Easter is the celebration of the Empty Tomb. Every Sunday we are reminded, “Go, tell!” Like the women, we may be trembling (Mark 16:8), but, we, too, are emboldened by God’s Spirit to carry out His command. Go tell. He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Prayer: Lord, there is no way I can repay You for Your kindness to me, especially the gift of salvation through Your Son. I pray that you will change and transform me into person who seeks to glorify You in all I say and do. Grant me a loving and giving heart. Through Christ, the suffering Servant, I pray. Amen.

Blessings on your stewardship journey!
