412 Student Ministries Wednesdays 6:15-8:10pm @ First Baptist Church of Pekin

06/01/2020

First off, to dads, step-dads, grandpas, brothers, and dad-figures; Happy Father's Day! Thank you for all you do to love, guide, and father the teenagers in your life. You're incredible.

I wanted to update you on our reopening process, in relation to our youth ministry and its gatherings.

As the State moves into Phase 3 and in the future, Phase 4, our church wanted to open opportunities for our teenagers to gather and continue to study God's Word together. Beginning TODAY, we will be able to host gatherings of 10 and less at the church. We will have Wednesday night gatherings at the church making sure to take precautions so that these gatherings are safe for everyone. We will have to follow social distancing rules and we will limit our use of the building to ensure a safe, disinfected space for everyone. Before and after services the space that we will be using will be disinfected. We might have gatherings outside, weather permitting, or we can be upstairs in the Attic Gameroom. If your teenager is not feeling well, it would be better for them to stay home as to not risk infecting others.

As mentioned earlier, starting today we will be able to have gatherings of 10 or less, and then when the State moves into Phase 4, we will be able to have 50 or less. If we have more than 10 people show up, then we will take precautions to have everyone stay safe and abide by the state's guidelines by having a second group in a different space.

Please, let me know if you have any questions or concerns. We want to make sure that your teenager is safe as they come to youth group so let me know if there's anything we can do to help with that. If there are any changes to these plans, then we will be sure to let you know!

Here's our schedule going forward . . .

WEEKLY DEVOTIONALS
We want to be reading the Bible together and the Bible App helps us do that. Each week, I will send out a link to everyone for a Bible reading plan that we can read together and share thoughts on. The reading plans are simple and each plan is 7 days or under so that if a particular topic is not as interesting or applicable for your teen, they won't have to read something they are not interested in for too long. The main point of this is to create that habit of daily Bible reading.

INSTAGRAM LIVE: MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS, AND FRIDAYS AT 11 AM
To go along with the Devotion plan on the Bible App, I will hop on Instagram and Live I will read through and discuss that day's devotion. If your teen has a hard time sitting down to read their devotion by themselves, encourage them to tune in so that we can read it together and interact further if they would have questions regarding the passage or with something that they're dealing with.

YOUTH GROUP: WEDNESDAYS AT 6:30 PM
We will be able to meet at the church and have a regular service, much like before the quarantine. However, we will be taking precautions to make sure that it is a safe environment for all of us. We will either meet outside in the parking lot and play games outside or we will use the Attic Gameroom. We really hope to see everyone there!

Hey parents!

I know this has been a very difficult time and I wanted to communicate where we're at right now regarding everyone's lifestyle changes. As you know, all in-person meetings have been canceled to help slow the spread of COVID-19. We are trying our best to remain connected to your teenager. Below you will find a list of our weekly activities. These activities are designed to help your teenager stay connected with our ministry and get encouragement, prayer, and support for their daily stresses.

Along with these events, I also offer the opportunity for everyone to read through a short devotional together on the Bible App. It's just a short Bible reading and inspirational thought to help us through this trying time.

Here is our weekly schedule during this Quarantine...

MONDAYS AT 7 PM: ZOOM HANGOUT
This is an opportunity for us to check and see how everyone is doing. Typically we'll just talk and hang out to see what we've been up to, what we can be praying for, and then we play some games. These can be Jackbox games (which is a trivia-related game that I host and each person participates using their phone) or it may be an activity that we do together (we painted with Bob Ross, for example).

TUESDAYS AT 11 AM: INSTAGRAM LIVE DEVOTION
To go along with the Devotion plan on the Bible App, I will hop on Instagram and Live I will read through and discuss that day's devotion. If your teen has a hard time sitting down to read their devotion by themselves, encourage them to tune in so that we can read it together and interact further if they would have questions regarding the passage or with something that they're dealing with.

WEDNESDAYS AT 7 PM: ZOOM BIBLE STUDY
This is our Wednesday night service on a Zoom call. It is abbreviated just to make it easier for everyone's attention span but every Wednesday I will share a short message and then we break into groups to discuss and pray together. From what I've heard so far, everyone has particularly enjoyed this time because it goes from a big group of 10-12 people to about 2-3 and that lets them share what's going on in their lives more easily. After the prayer time, we play games together. Once again, this is typically Jackbox games where we all get to play.

THURSDAYS AT 11 AM: INSTAGRAM LIVE DEVOTION
This is the same as Tuesday's activity. I will hop on Instagram and Live I will read through and discuss that day's devotion. If your teen has a hard time sitting down to read their devotion by themselves, encourage them to tune in so that we can read it together and interact further if they would have questions regarding the passage or with something that they're dealing with.

FRIDAYS AT 7 PM: ZOOM HANGOUT
This is the same as Monday's activity. Once again, this is an opportunity for us to check and see how everyone is doing. Typically we'll just talk and hang out to see what we've been up to, what we can be praying for, and then we play some games. For whatever reason, Fridays have been a smaller group so it's a little more casual and I find it a better opportunity to see how everyone is really doing during this time.

SATURDAYS: FREE DAY
They have things to do every day so I wanted to leave space for them to do whatever they wanted. This doesn't mean they can slack off on their reading plans or homework so encourage them to still connect with me if they need help regarding their devotions or if they want to chat privately.

SUNDAYS AT 10 AM: CHURCH SERVICE
Every Sunday Morning we host our church service Live on Facebook. This is a great time to have the family sit and watch the service together. We also encourage you to participate in the activities on-screen. During worship, sing along. During communion, have bread and juice for the family. During Pastor Vernon's messages, take notes together. All of these offer opportunities to ask questions of your teenagers and see what they got from the message.

I also want to come alongside you as parents with whatever I can do. Let us know if there's something that you or your teen needs prayer for. Or perhaps there's something that you would like me to address during our devotionals or Bible studies. You are around them a lot more now and may see things that you haven't seen before. Let this be an encouragement to you; though this time may be very difficult with everyone working from home and all the kids are constantly around you needing attention and help, this is an incredible time to bring the family together. Offer dinner time together or a morning devotional together. When they are struggling with an assignment, get them the resources to complete those assignments.

Here's a link to a video that I found very encouraging and wanted to share it with you. https://youtu.be/CCWgjGV_1PE

Again, please let us know how we can help. This page is specifically for the Youth Ministry so you can send me messages on here and I will respond as promptly as I can. Most of my communication with your teenagers is done through Snapchat and Instagram so you can also follow me on there so that you will know what's going on daily.

Know that we are praying you and God is with you through every moment.

Sincerely,
Benny Mate

P.S. I sent this letter out in an email to all parents of teenagers. If you did not get it, please private message me so that I can add you to our email list. A parent update gets sent out every month so that you can stay up to date with our ministry so please let me know if you're not getting these emails. Thanks!

IMPORTANT NOTICE

To all Members and Attendees of First Baptist Church-Pekin,

The safety of all who attend First Baptist is of utmost importance. We have continued to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) updates here in Illinois and have spoken to medical professionals. In order to best safeguard all in our church family, especially those whom the virus affects the hardest (the elderly), as well as do our part in slowing down the potential spread of the virus, the Board of Deacons have decided to cancel Sunday services for the next 3 Sundays (March 15, 22 & 29).

We do plan on providing a facebook live stream tomorrow (Sunday, March 15) beginning at 10am at facebook.com/FirstBaptistPekin. This will include worship as well as the planned sermon. If the viewership is steady we will continue to provide facebook live stream on March 22 and 29. The sermon portion will also be available on the church website each Wednesday.

The following also apply:
1. The Senior Lunch scheduled for Monday, March 16th, is cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.
2. Wednesday evening meals, children’s and youth ministry will be cancelled during the Illinois school closure schedule.
3. Thursday morning Men’s Bible Study is cancelled.

Please remember, the ministry of First Baptist Church-Pekin exists because of the faithful, financial support of its members and attendees. During this time we especially encourage your continued support. You can mail gifts/offerings to First Baptist Church 700 S. Capitol St. Pekin, IL 61554 or by giving online at fbcpekin.com.

Working together we can keep our church family and community safe, as well as reduce the likelihood of the virus spreading. The better we do this, the sooner we can return to normal.
Trusting Him,

Vernon Risner
Senior Pastor

Terry McIntosh
Chairman of the Official Board

P.S. Again if you know someone that doesn’t have email or facebook please contact them and share. Thank you.

Attention Parents!

We have a SPECIAL GUEST this week!
We want to invite you to come along with your teenager and hear this person’s testimony. They grew up in the persecuted church and they have seen God move in amazing ways and have experienced God’s faithfulness and presence all throughout these trials. Come hear their story and also see what a Wednesday night youth service looks like. We can’t wait to see you there!

Tomorrow is See You At The Pole and so tomorrow night we will still meet regularly at 5:30 pm for the free meal and service time will begin at 6 pm. However, we will not have our normal service because the See you At The Pole concert is at Grace United Methodist Church from 7-9pm. We will drive everyone over to Grace UMC at 6:45pm and drive them back after the concert at approximately 9pm. If you need to pick up your teen early, you are more than welcome to get them from Grace UMC at whatever time you need.

When life doesn't make sense, God can be Trusted.

This week in our series Stronger, we saw how a man named Joseph experienced betrayal and injustice, but how God can always be trusted, even when life doesn't make sense.
