Our message is salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, holiness as a work of the Holy Spirit, and unity of all believers. The origin of the work at Peebles dates back before 1910 when evangelist. The preaching was so different from what people had been hearing that out of the meetings grew the recognition of a need for regular worship. It was in the year 1910 that George A. and Harriet Z. McFarla
nd deeded one-half acre of land on Turkey Creek Road to the Elders and Deacons of the Church of God and soon after a building was erected. The earliest available record indicates Joseph McFarland was pastor of the church from 1917 until the early 1930's. Harry Graham was called to assist Brother McFarland during this time. During the 1930's the church was under the leadership of Harry Graham, W. Shinn, and Willie Jones. Records show that Harry Graham served as pastor from 1938 until 1952. It was at this time that Lang Rankin and then later Glenn Shelton pastored the church. In 1956 under the leadership of Glenn Shelton a lot and building was purchased on Grove Street in Peebles. Hollis then came as pastor in April 1958 and dedicated many years driving to and from his home in Chillicothe for services in Peebles. It was under his term as pastor that the church building was completely remodeled and In July 1971 the house next door was purchased to serve as a parsonage. In September 1976 Brother Hollis resigned due to his ill health. He was able to return to be with us on April 3, 1977 for a Mortgage Burning Service. Brother Howard G. Howell pastored from 1977 to 1978. In December 1978 Brother Paul Voss from Gallipolis, Ohio came to Peebles to pastor the church and was there through December 1984. Brother Paul was instrumental in initiating a building fund and 12 acres of land was purchased on Steam Furnace Road. In March 1985 David Farthing came to be with us as pastor. Brother
David was instrumental in working with the youth during his time here. Pastor Woodrow Wilson from Chillicothe, Ohio began to fill the pulpit in June 1987 and accepted the pastorate on August 30, 1987. Pastor Woody brought a renewal of our vision for a new facility on the Steam Furnace Road property. In October 1987 the monthly Building Fund Offering was restarted and plans began toward the reality of a new facility. December 1988 brought the congregation voting approval on a general theme for the new facility centering around a T-shaped brick structure. Building plans were finalized in•; June 1988 and the permits were sent to the state for final approval. A ground-breaking ceremony was then held on July 10, 1988 at the shelter house on the Steam Furnace Road property. Over 100 attended the celebration. On March 4, 1989 a time capsule was placed in the east wall of the sanctuary. Praise the Lord!!! The church family moved into the new facility in June 1989 and began regular services. A special dedication service was then held on July 23rd. Brother Richard Latham was the guest speaker with Brother Paul Voss and family in attendance. A reception followed the service in the fellowship hall. Approximately 150 were in attendance for the celebration. In August 1989 Pastor Woody Wilson and his family decided to return to their home area. From 1989 to 1991, Minister Cheryl Mitchell from our congregation and other ministers of the Church of God from around the area continued to fill the pulpit. Brother Dillard Martin came to be our pastor in the fall of 1991 and continued until the spring of 1995. Brother Ron Stephens came to be with us as pastor in July 1995 and remained until February 2008. During Brother Ron's twelve and half years of pastorate, the church began a weekly youth ministry and many lives were spir1tually touched from his leadership. Under his guidance, various projects on the church facility were done. One of them was the church steeple. Also the trees that line the church driveway were his idea. Each tree was planted for a saint when they turned 80 years old. In November 2008, Brother Harold Keaton accepted the pastorate and is with us at the present time. There have been many changes throughout the past 100 years; changes in leadership, places of worship, congregation members, and culture but, “The gates of hell shall not prevail" against the church of the living God. We praise God for all the things He has done for us here in Peebles. Like a mighty army moves the Church of God.
