February 11 - Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes - title given to Mary, the mother of Jesus, after she appeared in Lourdes, France. Apparitions happened in 1858. A young girl named Bernadette Soubirous saw Mary at a place called the Grotto of Massabielle. Bernadette was only 14 years old. Mary appeared to Bernadette 18 times. She wore white with a blue sash and had a yellow rose on each foot. During these visits, Mary asked people to pray, turn away from sin, and trust God. She also asked for a chapel to be built at the grotto.

Today, September 29 is the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.

Today, September 29 is the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.

The interior walls of the Church of St. Aedan in Pearl River, NY contain twenty-five beautiful stained glass windows depicting Our Blessed Mother’s life. The twenty-sixth and largest window is of Saint Michael the Archangel, the protector and defender of the Catholic Church, and Saint Gabriel the Archangel, the messenger of the Catholic Church.

This beautiful piece of stained glass art illustrates a Biblical rendering through bright and brilliant colors of a Chalice and a Host and three heavenly angels.

The Baptismal Font is located directly in front of the Angel window on the south side of the church. Baptism is one of the most important sacraments in our Catholic church.

From 1904 until 1985 all the stained glass windows enhanced the walls of the chapel at Ladycliff College located adjacent to the United States Military Academy at West Point in the Village of Highland Falls, New York.

August 15 ~ The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary stained glass window in the Church of St. Aedan Pearl River, NY

Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
