✠ DIES SANCTISSIMI CORPORIS ET SANGUINIS DOMINI IESU CHRISTI ✠ (The Solemnity of Corpus Christi)

This Sunday, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, giving thanks for the gift of Our Lord Jesus Christ truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. In the Holy Eucharist, Christ feeds His people with the Bread of Heaven and draws His Church into deeper communion with Himself.

The sacred chants of the Mass proclaim this great mystery:

Introit
Cibavit eos ex adipe frumenti, alleluia: et de petra, melle saturavit eos, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

He fed them with the finest wheat, alleluia; and with honey from the rock He satisfied them, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Communion
Quotiescumque manducabitis panem hunc et calicem bibetis, mortem Domini annuntiabitis, donec veniat.

As often as you eat this Bread and drink this Cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until He comes.

The Parish Choir and Schola Cantorum will offer two beautiful anthems for this solemn feast. This will also be the last sung Mass of the choral term. The choirs will return again in October for the new choral season.

Harold Friedell’s “Draw Us in the Spirit’s Tether” is a beloved setting of Percy Dearmer’s Eucharistic text. The anthem beautifully reflects the unity of the Church gathered around the altar, where Christ is present among His people and feeds them with His own Body and Blood. Its text reminds us that the Eucharist is not only a sacred banquet, but also the bond of charity that draws the faithful together into one communion in Christ.

Friedell’s music gives the words a gentle, prayerful character, moving from quiet devotion to a warm expression of praise. The anthem is especially fitting for Corpus Christi, as it speaks of Christ’s presence where His people gather, the breaking of bread, and the grace that unites the Church through the Holy Spirit.

The choir will also sing Chad Fothergill’s setting of “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence.” This ancient Eucharistic hymn comes from the Liturgy of Saint James, one of the oldest liturgical traditions of the Church. Its text is filled with awe before the mystery of the Incarnation and the Holy Eucharist, calling all creation to stand in reverent silence before Christ the King, who comes to His people in the Blessed Sacrament.

The hymn is often associated with the haunting French carol melody PICARDY, whose solemn and mysterious character has made it especially beloved in Advent and Eucharistic liturgies. Chad Fothergill’s arrangement draws upon this ancient spirit of reverence, clothing the familiar text in a rich and contemplative choral setting. His music allows the words to unfold with dignity and stillness, inviting the listener into prayer before the Real Presence of Christ.

Together, these anthems turn our hearts toward the mystery at the center of Corpus Christi: Christ gives Himself to His Church as the Bread of Life, and in receiving Him, we are drawn more deeply into communion with God and one another.

This Sunday the Church celebrates the great Solemnity of Pentecost, the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the birth of the Church’s public mission. Fifty days after Easter, the promised Advocate comes with fire, wind, courage, and grace, sending the Church out to proclaim the Gospel to every nation.

The sacred texts of the Mass are among the most beautiful of the liturgical year. The Latin propers are filled with the language of divine fire, renewal, consolation, and the strengthening power of the Holy Spirit.

Introit — Spiritus Domini
Spiritus Domini replevit orbem terrarum, alleluia: et hoc quod continet omnia, scientiam habet vocis, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
“The Spirit of the Lord has filled the whole world, alleluia; and that which contains all things has knowledge of the voice, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.”

Alleluia
Emitte Spiritum tuum, et creabuntur: et renovabis faciem terrae.
“Send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be created: and Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.”

Sequence — Veni Sancte Spiritus
The Pentecost Sequence, often called the Golden Sequence, is one of the great treasures of the Roman liturgy.
Veni, Sancte Spiritus, et emitte caelitus lucis tuae radium.
“Come, Holy Spirit, and send forth from heaven the ray of Thy light.”

Veni, pater pauperum; veni, dator munerum; veni, lumen cordium.
“Come, Father of the poor; come, giver of gifts; come, light of hearts.”

Offertory — Confirma hoc Deus
Confirma hoc Deus, quod operatus es in nobis.
“Confirm, O God, what Thou hast wrought in us.”

Communion — Factus est repente
Factus est repente de caelo sonus advenientis spiritus vehementis, ubi erant sedentes, alleluia.
“Suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a mighty rushing wind, where they were sitting, alleluia.”

Our music for Pentecost will also include two beautiful choral anthems:

Philip Wilby — If Ye Love Me
This contemporary setting of Christ’s words from St. John’s Gospel reminds us that the gift of the Holy Spirit is inseparable from love and obedience: “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” Wilby’s writing brings a modern devotional warmth to a text long associated with Whitsunday and the promise of the Comforter.

Josef Rheinberger — Confirma hoc Deus
Rheinberger’s setting of Confirma hoc Deus draws directly from the Pentecost Offertory text: “Confirm, O God, what Thou hast wrought in us.” It is a prayer that the grace begun in us by the Holy Spirit may be strengthened, preserved, and brought to perfection.

On Pentecost, we ask the Holy Spirit to renew the face of the earth — and to renew our hearts, our parish, and the whole Church.

All are encouraged to wear red this Sunday, the traditional color of Pentecost, symbolizing the fire of the Holy Spirit descending upon the Apostles.

Veni, Sancte Spiritus. Come, Holy Spirit.

Michael Murray of Pearl River, NY, passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on Saturday, May 16, 2026. He was 81 years old.

Michael was born to James Murray and Mary Alice McCreesh on December 15, 1944 in Armagh, Ireland. He had a wonderful childhood growing up in his hometown of Crossmaglen. He loved farming in the fields, riding the tractor and playing cards around the table in the evenings.

In 1963 Michael emigrated to the Bronx, NY. He began working as a carpenter and became a wonderful, accomplished one over time. He enjoyed going to the Red Mill and the Jaeger House to dance and meet family and friends. He soon met Rosaleen and they were married on November 4, 1967.

Michael and Rosaleen had a beautiful marriage which was blessed with a love that grew deeper and stronger every day. Michael dedicated his life to Rosaleen, and his two daughters, Mary and Linda, and later his cherished grandchildren. He always treasured his Irish roots, so they got their daughters involved in Irish dancing and Irish music lessons. Many happy days were spent going to Irish dance competitions where they would spend the day enjoying family and friends.

Michael was the most loving husband, father and grandfather. He gave his life to caring, loving and supporting his family in every way possible. He was always there to lend a helping hand, to listen and to offer advice. He took such pride in seeing his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews grow and thrive. He enjoyed getting together with family, sharing fond memories, creating new ones and treasuring family vacations each year.

Michael was a faithful parishioner at St. Margaret's Church after moving from St. Barnabas Church when living in Yonkers. Michael instilled a love of God in his family and the importance of faith. It brought him comfort and peace throughout his life. Michael cared for and was so devoted to his wife Rosaleen when she battled Alzheimer's disease. He was attentive, committed and so loving.

Before his passing he would say, "Now don't cry for me when I am gone. I will be with my angel, Rosaleen."

Michael is survived by beloved daughter, Mary (Billy Woods), beloved daughter, Linda (Tommy Connolly), and grandchildren Liam, Kieran, Aidan , Colleen, John, Tara and Erin. He is survived by his siblings Jim, Margaret, Eileen, Kathleen, Gerry, Frank, Bessie, Joan, Mary, Clare and Joe.
