I, like you, have been watching our world fall apart. Is there anything good happening? We wonder. Then, like a heavenly vision we see the revival at Asbury. Our eyes look up, “is revival coming to us as well?” I do believe revival has come to Asbury and that it will continue. But I am also alarmed by those who are promoting their worldview/theology/experience – telling us what is occurring at Asbury. Here is an example: “…In summary, at Asbury, they are letting (the) Holy Spirit, Who is Lord of the Church, BE Lord of the Church. It is THAT simple. Are YOU willing to let (the) Holy Spirit be Lord of where you lead?” The article was to pastors advising them to get rid of their bulletins, order of service, and sermon if the Holy Spirit leads (which means giving the microphone to whoever wants to speak).
This particular person is promoting his theology at the expense of the truth. Not good. So what do we do? Be polite and then refer them to what Asbury is saying about this event. They are saying it is the prayers of God’s people that is making the difference. And not just any kind of prayer, but travailing prayer. Here is a link to their post: https://seedbed.com/asburyoutpouring/. This doesn’t negate the role of the Holy Spirit in a praying church, but by focusing on the Holy Spirit, we miss the point. The Holy Spirit will do His part, He is waiting on us to do ours. Remember this, diversion is a key strategy in fighting any war. Don’t be diverted, stay focused on what is vital. “Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting (Ps. 126:5).”
