Happy International Women's Day! May we continue to uplift each other, share our stories of resilience, and work together towards a future where every woman and girl can realize her full potential. Together, we are unstoppable.

Let me leave you with the dialogue
In the WhatsApp group titled "Empowering Girls in Sierra Leone," Emily initiated the conversation with a warm welcome and introduced the group's purpose. After each member introduced themselves—Finda, the diligent government official from the central bank, Fudia, the devoted housewife and director of a national NGO for women; and young Matilda, whose curiosity sparked this conversation—the stage was set for a deep dive into the nuances of women's empowerment and the effectiveness of donor funds.

Matilda: "Hello everyone, I'm really grateful for this chance to talk with you all. My question is, how do the funds from donors actually help girls like me in Sierra Leone? Do we see changes, or does it just look good on paper?"

Emily: "Matilda, that's an excellent question. Our organization focuses on creating programs that directly impact girls' education, health, and overall empowerment. This includes scholarships, health awareness campaigns, and leadership workshops. The goal is for every dollar to make a tangible difference in communities."

Finda: "From the central bank's perspective, we monitor the flow of these funds to ensure they reach the intended projects. We also work to provide a transparent environment for NGOs like Emily's and Fudia's to operate effectively. It's about creating a supportive ecosystem for these initiatives."

Dear Lonely Heart,
I know this journey called life can often feel like a solitary road, with challenges looming on every horizon. But in your solitude, I want you to remember something crucial: you are not truly alone. Deep within you lies a reservoir of strength waiting to be unleashed, capable of carrying you through even the darkest nights.

Let's talk straight. Life isn't a parade where someone is waiting around every corner to rescue you. There won't always be a helping hand when you're down and out, nor will a shoulder to lean on when the world's weight feels too heavy to bear. It's a harsh reality, but one you must accept.

But here's the kicker: you don't need anyone else to make your mark on this world. You have within you all the tools necessary to carve out your own path, to chase your dreams with unwavering determination, and to conquer the obstacles that stand in your way. Don't wait around for a hero to swoop in and save the day; be your own hero.

Sure, it may sting to realize that some people you counted on won't be there when you need them most. But here's the silver lining: those fair-weather friends who vanish when the going gets tough will be the first to come crawling back when you emerge victorious. And emerge victorious, you will.

When the road ahead seems too daunting to travel alone, turn to the One who is always by your side. So, my dear lonely heart, embrace this solitude as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. Use it to unearth the reservoir of strength within you, cultivate resilience in the face of adversity, and emerge from the darkness shining brighter than ever before.

Finding purpose in any situation, particularly in today's fast-paced and often challenging world, is a critical lesson we must impart to our youth. The journey towards understanding one's purpose is about personal fulfillment and contributing positively to society. Here's why teaching our youth to find purpose is so important and how we can support them in this quest:

The Importance of Finding Purpose
1. Mental Health and Resilience: Young people who have a sense of purpose are better equipped to navigate life's challenges and are less likely to succumb to feelings of despair, anxiety, and depression. Understanding their purpose can give them a sense of direction and a buffer against life's inevitable difficulties.
2. Motivation and Achievement: Purpose acts as a powerful motivator, encouraging youth to set and achieve goals. It drives persistence and effort, leading to greater satisfaction and success in academic, personal, and professional endeavors.
3. Social Connection and Contribution: Finding purpose often involves looking beyond oneself. It fosters a sense of belonging and encourages young people to contribute meaningfully to their communities. This benefits society and enhances the individual's sense of self-worth and belonging.
4. Identity Development: Adolescence and young adulthood are critical for identity formation. Exploring and understanding their purpose helps young people define who they are and want to become.
Supporting Youth in Finding Their Purpose
1. Encourage Exploration: Provide opportunities for young people to explore different interests, hobbies, and passions. Exposure to diverse experiences can spark inspiration and help them discover what truly resonates with them.
2. Foster Reflection: Encourage them to reflect on questions like "What am I good at?" "What do I care deeply about?" and "How can I contribute to something larger than myself?" Reflection can be facilitated through conversation, journaling, or mentorship.
3. Model Purposeful Living: Adults can lead by example by living purposefully and sharing their journeys. This includes discussing personal challenges and how they've navigated them, emphasizing the role of purpose in overcoming obstacles.
4. Teach Goal Setting: Help young people set short-term and long-term goals aligned with their emerging sense of purpose. Goal setting is a practical skill that turns abstract ideas about purpose into actionable plans.

The devastating Kush epidemic and the harsh realities faced by political prisoners for merely voicing their opinions reverberate, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed and lost. These stories, while heart-wrenching, also serve as a modern-day parallel to the ancient narratives of Daniel and the three Hebrew brothers—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—who found themselves in the heart of adversity yet emerged with unparalleled success. This tale of resilience, faith, and purpose amidst trials offers invaluable lessons for today’s youth and young adults.

The Unseen Battles
Cheslie Kryst's story is a stark reminder of the unseen battles many face. On the surface, she epitomized success and joy, yet beneath, she grappled with deep-seated pain leading to her untimely demise. Similarly, the Kush epidemic has ensnared countless lives in its grip, drawing individuals into a vortex of dependency and despair, often unseen until it's too late. Political prisoners worldwide endure the cost of courage, standing for their beliefs only to be punished with unjust punishment.
