The Way of the Cross

The Way of the Cross, also called the Stations of the Cross, is a devotional journey through the final hours of Our Lord’s Passion. Rooted in the Church’s ancient pilgrimage tradition, it unites the faithful spiritually to the path Christ walked from condemnation to burial.

This devotion consists of fourteen stations. Each station recalls a specific moment: Jesus is condemned, takes up His Cross, falls, meets His Blessed Mother, is helped by Simon of Cyrene, consoles the women of Jerusalem, is stripped, crucified, dies, and is laid in the tomb. At every station, we pause to reflect, pray, and respond with gratitude and repentance.

The Way of the Cross is especially observed Friday's during Lent, and most solemnly on Good Friday. It invites us to contemplate not only Christ’s physical suffering but also the depth of His love. The Cross reveals both the gravity of sin and the greater triumph of mercy.

This devotion is not mere remembrance. It is participation. By meditating on each station, we bring our own burdens, trials, and sacrifices into union with Christ’s redemptive suffering. In doing so, sorrow becomes hope, and suffering is transformed by grace.

All are invited to walk this sacred path, to stand at the foot of the Cross, and to encounter anew the saving love poured out for the life of the world.

Join us each Friday evening during Lent at 6PM.

This weekend is the 2026 Bishop's Services Appeal Education Weekend, an important moment to see how your support for the BSA directly funds the vital ministries that no single parish could sustain alone - from educating our seminarians to providing
compassionate and life-saving assistance.

As we embrace this year's theme, "Holding the Faith: Decades of Prayer & Service," we ask you to prayerfully consider how your financial gift can become a "lifted prayer"that provides tangible hope and essential services not only to our brothers and sisters
across Acadiana but to our parish, St Joseph.

See how your donotation is used to impact the lives of so many here in the Diocese of Lafayette. Visit our website for more information at: https://stjosephpatla.org/
