Daily Devotional for October 23, 2022

Scripture:
Romans 15:1-2 – “Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification.” (NASB)

Observation:
Some liked Superman, others liked Batman, but I had my own hero right at home. Growing up I would hear other boys talk about their heroes - some liked sports players, others liked comic book heroes, but I had a hero deep in my heart. He is the type of man who stood tall 6'3", lifted weights, was good looking, and had strength beyond belief; he could ripe a phone book in half, lift just about anything, and although he was stronger than most, there was a gentleness about him . He was willing to help those not as strong - like today's reading shares about bearing the weaknesses of those without strength and pleasing your neighbor for their own good. I have seen my hero risk his life for another, take the time to listen to those hurting, help a complete stranger all because he knows Christ. You see, my hero back then and today is my dad. If I can be half the godly man he is… he doesn't just read God's word, he lives it!! I wonder if people can say that about us. Are we just reading His word or are we living it?

Application:
• Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
• Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.

Scripture:
Acts 27:25 “Therefore, keep up your courage, men, for I believe God that it will turn out exactly as I have been told.” (NASB)

Observation:
A man I met was down and out. He felt like there was no hope, and yet he called and asked me to pray with him. (These moments of men reaching out have become more frequent lately…Satan is attacking men to a horrendous degree these days.) I prayed with my friend. Make sure you read today’s verse. It is a word of encouragement for any man struggling with something. Don't give up. Don't let Satan rob you of the power we have in Jesus Christ. I want to encourage each one who reads this to do two things: 1) pray to find God’s direction, and 2) reach out to a guy whom you know is struggling and share today's verse. Men can’t go it alone. But we have Jesus Christ and each other. A call or text at the right time can make the difference in a man's life. Whether they know the Lord or not, reach out. See what God does.

Scripture:
Romans 5:9 “Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” (NASB)

Observation:
It’s something we don’t like to talk about, but in God’s Word (especially the Old Testament) we see God’s wrath. It was and is a terrible thing, but the act of one man changed the world and eternity forever. His precious blood was poured out for ALL. His willingness, despite the pain and suffering, to give up His life for us was the greatest act of love. Have we ever spent some time at the foot of that cross realizing that the debt of our sin was paid in full? Now, we have a decision to make—do we accept Him in full or do we make some excuse and choose to walk away from that act of love? Because there was a Resurrection Day three days after the cross, we can be saved from the wrath of God through Jesus Christ.

Application:
• Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
• Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Scripture:
Mark 8:35 “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.” (NASB)

Observation:
I lost a little piece of myself recently, and it was painful. I had to have one of my molars removed due to the decay between the crown and what was left of my tooth. From the outside, you couldn't tell, but deep within the decay was eating my tooth away. Today's verse says that anyone wishing to save his life must lose it, and whoever loses his life for Christ’s sake will save it. I realize it was only my tooth, but the pain was terrible. The weird part was the crown made the tooth look as if it was just fine. Only by an x-ray were we able to see how bad it was. Sometimes in life, we seem to be okay on the outside. Everything looks good, but upon examining deep within ourselves, we find that we really don't want to lose part of ourselves. However, that's exactly what Christ is asking of us...to die to self so that He may live in and through us. When was the last time we did a thorough examination of our spiritual walk with Christ? It may seem to be fine on the outside, but what's going on behind that good-looking exterior? It's time for some x-rays on ourselves, because the decay of this world can eat us away.

Application:
•Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
•Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.

Attention TLC MEN:

TLC has an immediate opening for a Men’s Ministry Leader. Pastor Clint had graciously taken on that role this past year and we now need to fill that position. There is also a page that will have to be administered and utilized as well for Men’s Ministry. Please let Pastor Amy Harris
know if you would like to use your gifts for Iron Men Ministries.

Daily Devotion for February 1, 2022

Scripture:
2 Corinthians 13:5 “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test?”

Observation:
It was the last step in the process. While finishing up the electrical and plumbing work on a home remodeling project, the last step was to call the inspectors to make sure all the work was up to code. Today's verse speaks of testing ourselves to see if we are in the faith, to make sure Jesus Christ is in us and if not, we will fail the test. As each inspector walked through their particular parts of the job, they were checking the work to make sure it was up to code for two reasons: to make sure it was done correctly, and the other was for the safety of those living in the house. To be honest, there were parts that needed to be corrected to pass. In life, I wonder if we ever check our own work to make sure we are up to code for the eternal life that awaits us. Thank God, we have repentance to go back and change those areas that aren't up to code. The question is twofold: who is your inspector, and are you living up to His code?

Application:

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
