I wish to thank everyone for your prayers and help as my dad and mom have their health issues. We are a long way from where we need to be; so continued prayers are appreciated.

Also, continued prayers for our nation. The latest concern deals with the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. I am pro-life as are many in our congregations. Many of these are ecstatic over this. But there are others who may be upset or at least uncertain over what this may mean/do. Let us all be in prayer as we enter new days in this area; just as we need to be doing in our other areas of life.

Now that we are in the season of Lent, we are focusing on Mountaintop Experiences. Yesterday, we looked at Abraham and Isaac and their experience with God on Mt. Moriah. Our theme was = COMMITMENT. Through the week, let us prayerfully reflect upon what commitment to God might entail: obedience? trust? sacrifice? endurance?

This Sunday, we continue our series. we will be looking at Mt. Sinai--let us get ready for the climb!

Ash Wednesday Services on March 2nd for Berwick and Patterson this year:

6:00 pm at FUMC Berwick.

02/24/2022

It is not even Lent yet (almost), but we already are grieving. Last night I saw the small group gathering to pray on their knees in 37 degree weather in Kiev. While life is falling apart and Russia invades, they knew what to do—pray.

It is important for us to join with them in prayer. Let us pray for peace. Let us pray for divine assistance and grace. Let us pray for strength and sustenance for the people of Ukraine. And also, let us pray for the ‘enemies’, who are also in need of peace in Christ.

May God’s grace be with us all.

From quarantine, I wish you a Happy New Year! Yes, COVID has even affected me and my family. Symptoms have been varied and mostly mild; but we are still feeling tired and yucky.

Because of the quick spread and so many were exposed on Christmas Eve, we have canceled services for Sunday, January 2nd. We plan to meet for worship next Sunday the 9th. In the meantime, we hope everyone will stay well or get well.

May God bless us all as we begin this new year of 2022.

Ok, everybody. I hate to break it to you; but I have just left the doctor

And I tested positive for COVID.

I will not be in church Sunday, obviously. But, it is likely others may have been exposed to it at the Christmas Eve service and / or Sunday service.

God bless you. And stay safe.

Christmas Eve Service this year is at Patterson UMC at 6:30 Friday evening (also one at FUMC in Franklin at 5:00).

And just like that, Christmas is upon us again. And as usual, in some ways I feel unprepared. But in some ways, maybe I’m ready. What about you?

So it was when Jesus first entered the world, wasn’t it? Most were not prepared in the least; but some were seeking the consolation of Israel (Simeon, Anna, and the magi). And then some were at least willing to receive the surprise gift (shepherds, Elizabeth, Mary & Joseph).

Ready or not, He is here. And we celebrate anew His coming. And we best witness (good or bad on our part) through our words, our actions, and our attitudes. This has been our theme this Advent & Christmas season: Witness (prophets, angels, shepherds, kings …).

And what shall our witness be this Christmas and beyond?

Our Christmas Eve Service (Patterson at 6:30) will continue with our witnessing theme. I have based our service upon the Advent hymn: “People, Look East”: Love, the Lord is on the way (Love, the Star; Love, the Rose; Love, the Guest). We receive the Lord, we experience life in Him, and we share Him with each other and with others.

May God bless you this Christmas!

The earliest form of the Gospel was our 3:16 this past Sunday (I Timothy 3:16): “And without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness:
—God (Jesus)was manifested in the flesh
—Jesus was justified in the Spirit (at his baptism when God the Father spoke ‘this is my Son in whom I am well pleased’)
—Jesus (in human form) was still seen (recognized) by angels (and former angels = demons)
—Jesus was preached among the gentiles (not just the Jews)
—Jesus was believed on in the world
—Jesus was received up in glory”

This telling of the Gospel is from God’s point of view; which reminds us that everything is all about Jesus and the grace of God.

Today, Thursday the 26th, I am testing God’s grace and that of the medical profession; as they will sonic boom my remaining kidney stones. Thanks for your prayers. I should be all good by tomorrow.

Obviously, as we continue to seek to grow in Christ, we realize that He will place on our hearts for prayer those who are in need. We want to continue to pray for each other and for us all still under the scary pandemic. God will bring us through; but it has been a tough time. Let us do our part: pray; get vaccinated if we can; social distance; wash hands, etc.

Also, as you know there are many difficult situations and tragic occurrences happening in this world. We continue to pray for Haiti, hit by the earthquake and the storms.

And we pray for the situation in Afghanistan. Pray for the people trying to grt out; pray for those who have to stay who have no hope for survival; pray also that God will somehow work in wondrous and graceful ways to bring people to Christ s as nd new life.

May God bless us all somehow.

I have never preached from Zephaniah before this past Sunday. But Zephaniah 3:16 plus the surrounding verses goes well with several of the 3:16’s we have shared in recent weeks.

“In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: ‘Do not fear; Zion, let not your hands be weak. The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.’”

The Scriptures keep pounding this concept into us: God, the Mighty One, is in our midst = He is dwelling in our hearts (the Spirit is; Christ is). Therefore, do not fear nor be discouraged, the Mighty One dwells with us. When you feel helpless and hopeless, He will save. When you are unhappy, He is your source of joy. When you are anxious and worried, He will quiet you with His love. When you are singles, the Lord God is singing to your soul and you will feel better.

Some of you, unfortunately we’re not able to hear this messsge from Zephaniah because my kidney stone cut short my day. But at least one time, in Patterson, I did get to preach from that book. :
