The Baha’i Community of Pasadena CA attended the screening of the movie “Cast Aside the Clouds,” , which
is a quietly affecting film about love, faith, and survival. Set in modern-day Iran, it follows Layla Khosravi, a young Bahá’í woman, and Sasan, a secular Muslim doctor, who fall in love against the backdrop of religious persecution.
The film works best as a human story before it works as a political one.
Director Mary Darling frames the Bahá’í Faith not merely as a source of suffering but as a source of strength, a distinction that keeps the film from feeling like a polemic.
A post-screening Q&A, emceed by Bita Milanian, drew an engaged audience eager to discuss the real-world issues the film raises.
Sincere and worth seeing. The film is primarily in English, with some Persian dialogue rendered in subtitles.
