We are the young adult community of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Pasadena, CA.

ABVM Young Adult Ministry's purpose is to create a home for young adults (18-39) to grow in the Roman Catholic faith, build Christ-centered community, and serve God and those in need. Happy Monday, YAMily!

It was wonderful spending time with you all this past week. On Wednesday, Monica led a talk on Our Lady of Fátima, whose feast day is Wed. May 13th. We learned about the Marian apparitions in Fátima, Portugal, in 1917, and their deep significance to our Catholic faith.

Then on Sunday, we spent a joyful morning helping to serve coffee & donuts to our fellow parishioners at ABVM after the 7.30 and 9.00am Sunday Masses.

As we continue our weekly get-togethers, here’s how you can get plugged in this week...

On Wednesday 5/20, we will continue learning about Saints on their feast days, this time with Camille at the helm. St. Bernardine of Siena, whose feast day is May 20, will be the focus of our lesson as we explore his life, the journey that led him to his vocation, and the legends associated with him. Doors will open at 7pm in the ABVM Community Center (651 N. Sierra Madre Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107) and the talk will begin at 7.30pm.

Then, on Saturday 5/23 we will be going to our monthly Skid Row Ministry event. We begin at 2pm at the Friary (3763 E 4th St. in LA) by making sandwiches, and then we distribute them to people in need around 3.30pm at 6th & Towne. If you have any questions or would like to RSVP your attendance, reach out to Tyler at (949) 377-5921.

Happy Monday, YAMily!

It was wonderful spending time with you all this past week. On Wednesday, Gabby led us in a reflection on Lent, including a talk, small group discussion, and individual reflection. It was meaningful to be able to reflect both on the good habits we’ve adopted as well as ways to break down barriers that prevent us from adding yet more fruitful habits to our lives.

As we continue our weekly get-togethers, here’s how you can get plugged in this week...

On Wednesday 5/13, Monica will lead a talk on Our Lady of Fátima, whose feast day is Wed. May 13th. Then, on Sunday 5/17, join us outside of ABVM Crean Hall (2640 E. Orange Grove Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107) as we help serve Coffee & Donuts after the 7.30 and 9.00am Masses. We will start to set up at 8am by the outdoor picnic tables in the schoolyard.

Happy Monday, YAMily!

It was wonderful spending time with you all this past week. On Wednesday we learned about one of Mexico’s most defining moments, the Cristero War, where faith and politics collided in a struggle that helped shape the nation’s identity. Pedro provided a masterful presentation on the history of religion in Mexico leading up to the war and the effects it had both then and now.

On Friday we hosted young adults from across the San Gabriel Valley in a First Friday Mass, Adoration, and Confession, followed by a lively social. Then on Saturday some of us joined our friends at Love & Responsibility LA for an insightful and thought-provoking talk on marriage, parenthood, and more.

Happy Monday, YAMily!

It was wonderful spending time with you all this past week. On Wednesday we gathered to learn about Pope John Paul II's upbringing and his influence on Europe and the world stage, both religiously and politically. Then on Saturday some of us enjoyed the sun and mountains on our Strawberry Peak hike, while others helped SVDP with their Homeless Caravan. Sunday we came together for Mass and had a delicious lunch at Prime Pizza in Altadena.

As we continue our weekly get-togethers, here's how you can get plugged in this week...

On Wednesday 4/22, we will have a sandwich-making service night. Our core team will bring sandwich-making supplies, and we will all assemble the sandwiches together. We will then drop them off at a local shelter. Doors will open at 7pm in the ABVM Community Center (651 N. Sierra Madre Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107) and the activity will begin at 7.30pm.

Then, on Saturday 4/25 we will be going to our monthly Skid Row Ministry event. Happy Monday, YAMily!

It was wonderful spending time with you all this past week. On Wednesday we gathered to play a round of Catholic Jeopardy. It was a very close game, we learned a lot, and had a lot of fun!

As we continue our weekly get-togethers, here's how you can get plugged in this week...

On Wednesday 4/15, we will hear from Tyler on one of the most influential Saints of our day, Pope John Paul II, and his influence on the Church and the world. Doors will open at 7pm in the ABVM Community Center (651 N. Sierra Madre Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107) and the talk will begin at 7.30pm.

Then, on Saturday 4/18, we will be going on a hike to Strawberry Peak in the Angeles National Forest. Meet at the ABVM Church parking lot (2640 E. Orange Grove Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107) at 8am to carpool to the trailhead.

Note that AllTrails ranks this hike as a "hard" one. It is 7 miles total (out and back). Please bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen/layers as needed.

If the hike may not be your speed but you'd still like to start your Saturday off right, the St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) group will be hosting their periodic "Homeless Caravan". Meet in the parking lot at ABVM (2640 E. Orange Grove Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107) at 10am to volunteer. We will carpool to Pasadena Central Park and from 10am-12pm we'll distribute pre-made portable survival kits (insulated sleeping bags, mats, hygiene kits, etc.) to the homeless in our community. It would be great to see you all join SVDP in solidarity in this effort.

And rounding out the weekend, on Sunday 4/19 we will be going to Mass together as a YAMily! Come join us in our usual seating spot near the piano for 11am Mass at ABVM Church (2640 E. Orange Grove Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107), followed by lunch afterwards. Hope to see you there!

Happy Monday, YAMily!

It was wonderful spending time with you all this past week. On Wednesday we got to hear from Monica about the conversion of St. Paul. The conversion occurred when Saul, a zealous persecutor of early Christians, encountered the risen Christ on the road to Damascus. Blinding light and a voice—“Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”—transformed him into Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, making him a major missionary and New Testament author.

As we continue our weekly get-togethers, here’s how you can get plugged in this week...

On Wednesday 2/4, we will be kicking off our Love Month series with a Couples Panel. Four couples in various stages of life, from dating to married with children, will be answering questions about their relationships and their faith. Doors will open at 7pm in the ABVM Community Center (651 N. Sierra Madre Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107) and we will get into the panel around 7.30pm.

Then, on Saturday 2/7, the Friars Poor of Jesus Christ will be back in action for the first Skid Row Ministry event of 2026! We will begin at 2pm at the Friary (3763 E. 4th St. in East LA) by making sandwiches, and then we distribute them to people in need around 3.30pm at 6th & Towne. Happy Monday, YAMily!

It was wonderful spending time with you all this past week. On Monday we prayed together over Zoom, and then on Wednesday we got to hear from Christopher Pinto on his experience working with the Catholic deaf community.

Christopher refers to this group as the Inverted 99, due to 99% of deaf individuals in the U.S. reporting no religious affiliation. This sobering fact should inspire us to do all we can to minister to this group and make the Church more welcoming to them. If you have an idea to help the deaf community, or if you have an interest in learning basic ASL (American Sign Language), please send us an email at [email protected], and we will connect you to Christopher.

Saturday brought an evening of fun, fellowship, and fantastic tunes at Luxy Karaoke! Now that we’ve thoroughly tested our voices, expect some excellent singing in the upcoming Sundays at Mass...
