“Which box do I check? Who am I allowed to be?”

Many mixed identity kids are forced to choose long before they even understand race and ethnicity.

In our new episode, Courtney Turner joins Centering to talk about mixed race and mixed ethnicity identity, belonging, harmful questions like “What are you?”, and how the church can walk with mixed identity Asian Americans with curiosity and care. Listen to our new episode, "Mixed Race, Mixed Identity, and Belonging" on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and SoundCloud.

We do not labor alone in the faithful work to which we are called.

We invite you to read this reflection on the APAHM Women in Ministry luncheon by event organizer and AAC program coordinator, Gillian Colcol-Garcia, and Dr. Jessica ChenFeng, director of the Asian American Well-Being Collaboratory. https://fulleraac.substack.com/p/this-table-was-built-for-you-too

May we keep building tables like this one, and may we keep finding, every time, that there is room enough for all of us.

Last month, as part of our Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) celebrations, the Asian American Center hosted a Women in Ministry Luncheon on Fuller’s campus, gathering local pastors, ministry leaders, mental health practitioners, and students to rest, listen, and share intergenerational wisdom in a sacred space of belonging.

Together, we celebrated leadership, nurtured connection, and strengthened one another—reminded that we do not labor alone in the faithful work to which we are called.

To every Asian American woman in ministry who has ever looked around and realized she was the only one—this one was for you. 🌸

We're closing out Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with one final piece from our Centering Substack—and it brings the whole conversation home.

This month for APAHM we've been asking hard questions about identity, representation, and what it means to bring all of ourselves to Christ. These posts reflect conversations we have been having within the AAC as we plan for our 10th anniversary gala this fall—grappling with the questions of why the AAC exists, who we serve, and why it matters.

For some of us, ethnic and Christian identity were so fused growing up that being a "good" Korean or Malayali was the faith. For others, survival meant hiding or rejecting our Asian selves entirely—and the call to reclaim that identity felt like healing. Both experiences are real, and both carry their own dangers.

Dr. Daniel D. Lee names these two traps and points us toward something better: not "super Asian," not colorblind—but shalom. Wholeness. All of who we are, reconciled and brought to Christ.

If you've been following along this month, this is the landing. If you're just joining us, this is a great place to start. 🔗 https://fulleraac.substack.com/p/thou-shalt-be-super-asian
