Encouragement from Fuller Chaplain and local pastor Inés Velásquez-McBryde:
"My favorite psalm is Psalm 121. It's the first psalm that I learned in Spanish. My abuela (grandmother) in Nicaragua helped me memorize it at 10 years old and made me say it out loud every morning before walking to the bus stop. It shaped and formed my character as I stepped outside into daily unknowns and uncertainties. My prayer is that you, too, would know that as you look up to the strong and mighty mountains surrounding the Pasadena campus, that the mountains would echo back that there is One mightier than them. Yahweh indeed is your ezer, your help, your rescue! May God be your help and your rescue."

Psalm 121:1-2:
"I lift up my eyes to the hills - from where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth."

Today's encouragement comes from Fuller Chaplain Kevin Doi:
"A psalm that I return to again and again is Psalm 3. I was first introduced to the psalm many years ago as a student leader by our college advisor. We were asked to memorize it. At the time, as a young leader, I didn’t understand why. But now as a pastor for over 25 years, I get it. In ministry, as in life, you will certainly face your share of unfair criticism and attack. It is a heavy and lonely burden to bear. Psalm 3 is a reminder that even in the face of those who seek to hurt or be unkind to us, we don’t have to defend ourselves. Instead, God promises to be “our shield and the one who lifts our head.” My prayer is that if you find yourself carrying the weight of unfair criticism or misunderstanding, know that the LORD hears your cry. God is your justifier and deliverer, the lifter of your head.”
PSALM 3:
"O Lord, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me;
many are saying to me,
“There is no help for you in God.” Selah
But you, O Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.
I cry aloud to the Lord,
and God answers me from God’s holy hill. Selah
I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, for the Lord sustains me.
I am not afraid of ten thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.
Rise up, O Lord! Deliver me, O my God!
For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked.
Deliverance belongs to the Lord;
may your blessing be on your people! Selah
