The Triumphant Reserve of the Angel army is in position at work. How about the church on earth? Are we in the right alignment ready to usher in the King, the Kingdom, and the glory of both?

《The Gospel of Salvation vs. The Gospel of the Kingdom》
Jocelyn Huang, LivingWaterInMe Ministries

What does “Gospel” mean? It means “good news.” But what good news?

《What kind of gospel?》

Most Christians use the phrase “share the gospel” to mean spreading the good news that “by believing in the Lord Jesus, a soul can be saved.” Leading people to salvation is seen as the fruit of evangelism. Yet in Scripture, the gospel Jesus Himself spoke of is not only the “Gospel of Salvation,” but even more often, the “Gospel of the Kingdom.”

The “Great Commission” He entrusted to His disciples was never just about getting souls saved and stopping there with the “Gospel of Salvation.” It was about the “Gospel of the Kingdom “ that enables believers’ lives and hands to display God’s power—

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16:15-17 NKJV)

I’ve observed that most churches today stay at the stage of preaching the “Gospel of Salvation.” Churches are filled with long-time believers who are still spiritual infants. Their lives look no different from unbelievers; they still operate by the world’s ways. They may pray, but they don’t truly “believe.” They don’t believe—or even know—that all the abundant keys of the Kingdom were given to them the moment they believed. They can draw on heaven’s resources at any time and do greater works than Jesus did. Multitudes of Christians who are merely saved lack teaching. As a result, the church is weak and powerless, always limp, unable to display the glory of the Kingdom (the Kingdom of God). Indirectly, this makes it harder to lead others to Christ—who would be interested in believing in a powerless God?

The threshold of salvation is extremely low: if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus bore your sin on the cross, your soul is saved. But to live out the glory of God’s Kingdom requires a price. I think that’s why many people believe, yet their lives never really change.

Jesus said: “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.” (Luke 18:29-30 NKJV)

《What Is the Kingdom?》

To talk about the “Gospel of the Kingdom,” we first have to be clear: what exactly is the “Kingdom”?

In the four Gospels (the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), “Kingdom of Heaven” is used interchangeably with “Kingdom of God.” The two terms convey the same concept: a kingdom where God is King. Note, it is a Kingdom, not the democratic republic we’re familiar with.

What are the elements that make up a kingdom? Four elements: the King, the King’s Law, citizens, and territory.

The King in the Kingdom of Heaven is Jesus—He is King of kings. The King’s Law is the Word of God; what He says, goes. The Bible serves as the foundational constitution. The citizens are the people who have believed—from that moment on, they live by the law and enjoy the rights and responsibilities of the Kingdom. The territory is every realm under God’s authority.

This Kingdom is not far away in some distant sky. It is something all citizens of the Kingdom—that is, all Christians who have received salvation—can experience, and they are already part of it! Yet far too many Christians lack this awareness. Jesus’ model prayer for His disciples says:

Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10 NKJV)

The Chinese translation adds a word “may” [願] at the beginning the verse, as if this were a request still waiting for God’s nod. I find that inadequate. What Jesus was actually teaching His disciples was to bring God’s Kingdom down and to carry out God’s will—on earth as it is in heaven. This prayer is less a petition and more a declaration, a command! A literal rendering from the Greek, I believe, captures it better:

Come, Your Kingdom! Be done, Your will—as in heaven, so also upon earth.

《The Gospel of the Kingdom》

So what is the “Gospel of the Kingdom”? The Gospel of the Kingdom is the moment you believe and become a citizen of the Kingdom, you have a share in all the goodness of the Kingdom and all the glory of God! It’s like a person who becomes a naturalized U.S. citizen—the moment he does, all the rights of a U.S. citizen are his. He also receives the nation’s protection, and of course he must obey U.S. law and fulfill a citizen’s duties.

God is the Creator. Whether or not someone believes, they are His creation. But those without salvation are cut off from God by sin, separated from His Spirit, and have no part in God’s Kingdom. Though God is full of grace and mercy—“He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:45 NKJV)—eternal life is given only to the righteous who are justified by faith and whose sins are forgiven. The mysteries and abundance of the Kingdom are only available to the righteous who have first obtained the entry ticket of salvation.

If you already hold the entry ticket to the Kingdom, don’t just linger at the reception desk at the entrance! Come on in and explore. The mysteries of the Kingdom are waiting for you.
