DON PIPER HEALTH UPDATE;

We’re happy to report that Don’s antibiotic hiatus of three weeks indicated no new infections! This is a great answer to many prayers. It means that he now eligible to have surgery to replace the knee replacement that caused the original infection. This surgery is scheduled for August 25, 2026. It is understood that Don will begin taking antibiotics prior to this surgery and for at least six months afterward. Potentially, he will have to take antibiotics indefinitely...a small price to pay to prevent another infection. Another infection in his knee with be catastrophic and would likely cause him to lose the leg. For a diabetic, this is usually a bleak diagnosis. Please pray no new infections arise.
In his previous knee replacement, physical therapy went very well. After only three weeks of therapy, he was walking unassisted. That means by the end of September, he should be able travel and share the gospel and his testimony with a renewed passion. Since the original diagnosis of serious infection on April 27, 2026, his inability to speak at venues and maintain his schedule has been beyond disappointing. It’s been utterly disheartening.
But now there is light and the end of the tunnel. While his running days may be over, he’ll be able to walk again. And that means he’ll be able to actually see you. And, Praise God, he’ll able to welcome people in the Kingdom of God and help them have a better trip on the way.
Words seem inadequate to express our gratitude for your prayers and compassion. But we do know that his healing and focus are a direct result of the prayers of the saints. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Prep starts Monday for his surgery. We’ll provide an update sometime around September 1, 2026. By then, we are believing that Don will again be standing and walking to the Glory of God.

06/26/2026

Hallelujah!!! Don’s bloodwork is where it needs to be this week. He will have two more IV Antibiotic push, one tomorrow with the last one on Monday. The knee aspiration is scheduled for July 20 at 1:00. Then we were told to allow 2 weeks to see if any cultures grow bacteria. If none grow then the knee replacement replacement can be scheduled probably the first of August.
First a huge thank you for all your prayers during this very difficult time. They have held us up especially when things felt hopeless.
Second please pray the cultures do not show any bacteria and that the next surgery goes smoothly. We are deeply blessed to have strong prayer warriors fighting for us.

05/22/2026

LATEST UPDATE: Yesterday Don had his follow up visit for the surgery. His dr was very pleased with the xrays and removed all the staples. Don still cannot bend his leg or put any weight in it but he can get the incision wet which means bathing will be much easier. We are hoping to hear from the original infectious disease doctor no later than Monday. She has experience in dealing with this type of infection and often works with Don’s surgeon. We would all feel more comfortable with her handling Don’s case. Thank you for all your prayers. Please continue to pray against the infection and for patience as this recovery moves forward.

UPDATE: After being in the hospital since May 4, Don was finally discharged yesterday evening. He was thrilled to be back in familiar surroundings. Over the next few weeks he will have visits from a home healthcare nurse, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist,and an aide. The scheduling for all that is still being determined. We do know Don faces a long road to recovery from this infection. Your continued prayers against that infection and strength of spirit are greatly appreciated. We know God hears the prayers of His children

PLEASE READ: I have waited to share until Don gave permission.
On April 27 we received a call that Don’s knee replacement was infected. Due to the severity of the infection on the following Monday he had surgery to remove the knee replacement and insert a static spacer infused with antibiotics. Since the surgery there have been several bumps which required transferring to another hospital and then to a skilled nursing floor. This will be a long and challenging recovery. Don cannot put any weight on the leg and due to the static spacer it cannot bend. He will be on antibiotics via infusion for several weeks. We know prayer works and we humbly ask for prayers against the infection, for strength of body and spirit. This has been very difficult for all of us but we lean on God to get us through. I will update as progress is made.
