I am beyond proud of Dr. Anthony Durham, who served as our Lay Day speaker today at First Church Pasadena! He exceeded every expectation and literally brought me to tears as I listened to his powerful testimony about his upbringing, his faith, and the incredible spiritual legacy of his family.

Dr. Durham shared how his beloved great-grandmother Rev. Zelma Madison and his grandmother Geraldine Wyndom and dad , helped shaped his life growing up. His story is a beautiful reflection of what it means to be ROOTED AND GROUNDED IN GOD AND HIS CHURCH!

He spoke about his salvation experience and how being raised in the church, attending Sunday School, Bible Study, and Vacation Bible School helped shape the man he is today. He even shared how he was taught the biblical principles of tithing at an early age and remains a faithful tither today because someone took the time to teach him its importance and significance.

What made this testimony even more beautiful is witnessing that same spiritual legacy being passed down to the next generation through his son, Alex! During our last Fifth Sunday Youth Worship Experience, Alex did a phenomenal job reading the Scripture. What was poured into the father is now being poured into the son!

When people say, “The church doesn’t work anymore,” I beg to differ! Dr. Anthony Durham is living proof that THE CHURCH STILL WORKS! It works when parents, grandparents, spiritual leaders, and the entire village take seriously the responsibility of raising and nurturing our children in the faith.

The Bible declares:Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.Proverbs 22:6

Dr. Durham’s testimony is a powerful reminder that what we instill in our children today can become the foundation they stand on for the rest of their lives! We may not always see the immediate results of the seeds we plant, but when those seeds are planted in good soil, watered with prayer, and nurtured through faith, they WILL produce a harvest!

Thank you, Dr. Durham, for reminding us of the power of a godly foundation and the lasting impact of a church that invests in its children! We love and appreciate you. 🙏🏾

Last night, I had the opportunity to attend and speak before the Pasadena City Council in support of the proposed Black Legacy District along North Fair Oaks Avenue. It was powerful to see so many community members show up, speak up, and advocate for meaningful investment in an area of our city that carries such a rich Black history and legacy.

I was especially encouraged by the Council’s discussion around supporting small businesses, revitalizing the corridor, exploring a Business Improvement District, investing in infrastructure, and waiving the minor CUP fee for small business startups within the Black Legacy District.

Last night was a reminder that our voices matter, our presence matters, and community engagement matters. There is still work ahead, but this was an important step forward. I’m grateful to everyone who has worked tirelessly to keep the history, economic vitality, and future of North Fair Oaks at the forefront.

What a beautiful Scholarship Luncheon we enjoyed immediately following worship on Sunday ! 🎓💙

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and recognize our scholars who are matriculating and continuing their educational journeys. We are incredibly proud of each of them and excited about what God has in store for their futures!

Congratulations to Lena Louise Kennedy and the entire team on an incredibly successful Inaugural State of the Black Community: Pasadena & Altadena! 👏🏾🎉

Today was more than just an event, it was an opportunity to bring our community together around information, resources, strategy, and action. The conversations were meaningful, the resources were valuable, and most importantly, we walked away with tangible action items for how we can continue moving Pasadena and Altadena forward!
