How often do we stop and remember God's goodness?

Last Sunday at Sovereign Grace Church of Pasadena, we continued our Summer of Psalms series with a message from Psalm 118. Pastor Bill reminded us of the importance of to God, especially in a world that constantly encourages self-reliance and self-sufficiency.

The psalmist calls us to remember God's character and His wondrous works. When we recall His steadfast love, faithfulness, and provision, naturally gives way to praise.

One of the powerful truths from Psalm 118 is that the trials we face are often the very places where we experience most deeply. It's one thing to know about God's love. It's another thing to experience His love as He carries us through difficulties, answers prayers, provides for our needs, and remains faithful through every season.

If we want to grow in gratitude, we must intentionally remember. We remember by rehearsing the gospel, reading , and reflecting on the countless ways He has worked in our lives in the past.

It's weekend, and we have two great opportunities for men, families, and friends to connect, , and enjoy some and fellowship at church!

☕ Men's Fellowship at Peet's Coffee

On Saturday morning, our men's group will gather for free coffee and fresh baked goods as we continue our discussion of ' The Screwtape Letters. More than a book study, this is a time for men to encourage one another, pray together, build authentic , and grow in their faith.

In a culture where many men struggle with , God calls us to walk alongside one another. helps us stay accountable, grow in wisdom, and encourage one another to follow Christ faithfully. Whether you've been attending for years or are new to the church, we'd love for you to join us.

This past Sunday, Pastor Tim kicked off our summer sermon series through the with a message from Psalm 145, a daily "Hallel" Psalm that calls God's people to praise Him day after day.

In a world that constantly tells us to look within ourselves for strength, , and , Psalm 145 points us in a different direction. We were reminded that true refreshment comes not from looking inward, but from looking upward to God and joining the eternal chorus of praise that has echoed through every generation of believers.

One of the ways we become a people of praise is by meditating on who God is. Pastor Tim encouraged us to develop the mindset: "I will... because God is." We obey, trust, , and persevere not because of our own strength, but because of God's unchanging character.

We also saw that God's praise is meant to extend across generations and across every social and economic boundary. The is a message for everyone.

The psalm concludes with a challenging reminder: there are ultimately two kinds of people. Those who recognize their weakness and need for God, and those who believe they are self-sufficient. The Psalms invite us to daily acknowledge our dependence on the Lord, delight in Him, and find our rest in Him.

Every day is a call to worship. Every day is an opportunity to remember who God is and respond with praise.

How do you handle sins, weaknesses, and failures in your life? Do you try to hide them?

Last Sunday, Pastor Tim continued our series in 1 John (1:5 - 2:2). He reminded us that when we mess up, our natural inclination is to cover it up, put on a good face, and pretend everything is fine. But hiding our flaws only isolates us. When we fake it, we end up with fake relationships — both with God and with each other.

The wonderful news of the Gospel is that we don’t have to hide anymore.

The apostle John writes as a tender father reminding his “little children” of what God is like. He is light, and He is love. Because Jesus is our advocate, and he atoned for our sins in his death, our debt is completely paid. Now we have amazing freedom to be completely honest about our flaws, because we are completely secure in his grace.

aren't places for perfect people; they’re a community where we hold the highest standard of holiness alongside the ultimate freedom to confess our weaknesses. When we step out of the darkness into the light, Jesus doesn’t only forgive us — He cleanses us and helps us truly grow.

Have you ever wondered why Sovereign Grace Church of Pasadena meets at the Pasadena International House of Prayer (PIHOP)?

We believe it's no accident.

For years, people throughout Pasadena have come to this location seeking a deeper connection with God through , , and spiritual renewal. The mission of the Pasadena International House of Prayer has been to cultivate a culture of continual prayer and worship, seeking God's presence and praying for His purposes to be accomplished in our city and beyond.

As a church, we are grateful to gather in a place with such a rich heritage of seeking the Lord.

Where are you looking for ?

Last Sunday at Sovereign Grace Church of Pasadena, Pastor Tim began our new sermon series through the letters of John by teaching from 1 John 1:1-4. He challenged us with a simple but profound question: Where are you looking for life?

So often, the quality of life we long for seems just out of reach because we're plugging into the wrong sources for fulfillment. Careers, possessions, achievements, entertainment, and relationships can never provide the life our souls were created for.

True life only comes through authentic in .

John reminds us that eternal life is not merely a future promise. Through Jesus, eternity has broken into our world. God became human, and life is found in Him alone. That's why John warns us against false teachers and false gospels. Real life comes only through the message of Jesus.

But what does look like?

It looks like . It looks like relationships. It looks like genuine connection with God and His people. The good life is knowing Jesus and being set free to love others. As we share and proclaim the gospel, our joy is made complete and our fellowship deepens.

The application is simple:

Life was never meant to be lived alone. God created us for -- to encourage one another, pray for one another, carry each other’s burdens, and grow together in faith.

Last Sunday at Sovereign Grace Church of Pasadena, Pastor Tim completed our study through the book of Hebrews with a powerful reminder that God Himself equips His people to through Jesus, our Great Shepherd.

We were reminded that our confidence in God’s equipping work in our lives today is rooted in what He has already done for us through Christ. God raised Jesus, our , from the dead, rescuing us from sin and securing us in His promises, through Jesus’ finished work on the cross.

Because of that, we can live with confidence knowing God will not let us go.

Through every struggle, trial, fear, and uncertainty, our Shepherd continues His ongoing work in us, creating, strengthening, mending, restoring, and leading us faithfully forward. He gives us and a confidence rooted not in ourselves, but in His promises.

In a world full of “inner circles” calling for our attention, approval, and allegiance, Hebrews points us outside the camp to Christ Himself. brings friction with the surrounding culture, but it is there, with Him, that we find true joy and lasting satisfaction.

The world cannot feed the heart the way Christ can. Our hearts are insatiable; they need to be fed every day. If we aren’t feeding on , we will try to fill up on other things that will always leave us disappointed. But if we , he transforms us into joyful, generous people, overflowing with .
