Unity of Pasadena Creating Community ~ Living Love ~ Teaching Truth ~ Serving Spirit Unity began about a century ago with Charles and Myrtle Fillmore.

Here are the basic ideas that make up the Unity belief system:

1. God is absolute good, everywhere present.

2. Human beings have a spark of divinity within them, the Christ spirit within. Their very essence is of God, and therefore they are inherently good also.

3. Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking. Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thou

ght.

4. Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God-Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity, and everything good.

5. Knowing and understanding the laws of life, also called Truth, are not enough. A person must also live the Truth that he or she knows.

We were "blessed" on Sunday with an inspiring message from guest speaker Rev Carol Bliss, who kicked off our September theme of "Blessings." She brought the Sermon on the Mount to life for us and reminded us that "Jesus turned everything on its head." Can you imagine being in the crowd that day?

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Living the 5 principles of Unity is ultimately about transformation. If we are on this spiritual path, our personal truth will continue to change as we live these principles. For that kind of transformation to stick, we need a strong foundation, just like Jesus taught us.
