The third and final night of our annual Cafe Series on the Saints was presented by parishioners George and Mary Kukich. They prepared an inspiring and entertaining dramatization about St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare of Assisi, complete with a fun musical number written by George. It was great to learn more about these two Saints, their relationship and the religious orders they founded as the Church honors St. Francis in a special way this year with a Jubilee Year marking the 800th year of his passing. Special thanks to the Spiritual Development Committee for planning and hosting this series.

We are just 11 days away from the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). Together our faith community will walk with the precious body of Jesus Christ to three altars. The procession begins at the St. John Bosco statue, stops at an altar near Pearl Road, proceeds on the Pearl Road sidewalk to Beverly Drive, then returns via Big Creek Parkway to our second and third altars. Roundtrip walk is approximately 1 mile. (There is an indoor plan for inclement weather.)

This weekend, we celebrate the Church's birthday, the Solemnity of Pentecost, the day when the disciples who had gathered in an upper room received the gift the Risen Christ had promised them: the Holy Spirit. A loud wind filled the room, and tongues of fire came to rest on each of them. They were filled with the Holy Spirit! They were no longer afraid. They began to speak in different languages. The large crowd that had gathered outside was astonished to hear the disciples speaking in many languages about the mighty acts of God.

The Holy Spirit has been given to each of us in baptism; we, too, are empowered to proclaim and witness God's mighty works. Let us call on the Holy Spirit daily for the strength and courage to live as true disciples of Jesus.
