Your Knowledge and Talents are Needed - Join the St. Carlo Acutis Tech Team. Saint John Bosco Parish is seeking volunteers to share their technical and audiovisual knowledge by managing the set-up and running of computers, lighting and sound equipment during special events at the parish. Ideally these are individuals who can take initiative and work in collaboration with the many ministry and committee leaders who are planning the events. On Tuesday, October 20th, St. John Bosco will offer the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick after the 7:30 AM Mass. Other opportunities to receive this Sacrament at Parma/Parma Heights Parishes during the month are listed in the chart below.

The Anointing of the Sick is offered to Catholics who are seriously ill in mind or body, to those undergoing surgery, and to those suffering from chronic illness or the burden of age. If you know of family, neighbors, or friends who might benefit from this Sacrament, please share the times and places listed on the chart below with them.

The Gospel Acclamation for the 29th Sunday of Ordinary Time is an abbreviated passage from Philippians 2:15-16. The message is that we should be so rooted in the word of life that the world can see it. The full two verses provide context for the exhortation: “Do everything without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine like lights in the world, as you hold on to the word of life...”

When someone acts with integrity, honesty, joy, and kindness and lives by the “Golden Rule,” they bring light to their world and bear witness to a goodness that can come only from “holding on to the word of life.” People around them may not say anything, but they will feel uplifted, and the “crooked and perverse” world around them will fade, at least for the moment. Being a light in the world is not the goal; it is the result of living according to God’s word.

Today is the feast day of St. Teresa of Avila, a Spanish nun, mystic, and Doctor of the Church.
⁣
She was a member of the Carmelite Convent of the Incarnation in Avila, Spain. Teresa spent much of her life reforming herself and the Carmelites. While she wrestled with illness, she still fought to dedicate her life and work to God. She founded a handful of monasteries and was a powerful writer.
⁣
Two of her most famous writings include the Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle, which served as spiritual and practical guides for Christian living, first within the Carmelites and then to the broader Church.
⁣
In her life, Teresa was a bright shining light to those around her. She is the patron of the sick, religious orders, and Spanish Catholic writers.

We are praying for Pope Leo’s recovery and for the doctors and staff caring for him. We also hold in prayer all who are living with cancer, their families, and those who care for them.

Doctors at Gemelli Hospital removed a cancerous tumor from Pope Leo XIV’s right lung, according to the Holy See Press Office. The surgery was successful, with no complications, and the Holy Father has returned to his hospital room.
We ask the faithful to continue praying for Pope Leo’s recovery and for the doctors and staff caring for him. We also hold in prayer all who are living with cancer, their families, and those who care for them.

Today is the feastday of St. Carlo Acutis.He reminds us that holiness doesn’t mean becoming a different person. It means letting God transform the person you already are. He loved soccer. He loved his friends. He loved technology. And he loved Jesus.
You don’t have to wait until you’re older, wiser, or “more holy” to start living for God.
The saints started saying yes right where they were. So can you. 🙏
