On the 25th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11, we lift up to you, O Lord, all who lost their lives and all whose lives were forever changed through the unimaginable violence of that day.
As a mother holds her children close; all people have refuge in the shadow of your wings, O God. Spread over us the shelter of your peace. With your cleansing love, bring healing and strength to our nation and all affected by the tragedies of that day.
Hold before us the wisdom of your cross, where we are drawn to you not by might or power, but by your boundless love and forgiveness in Jesus Christ.
Amen.

โ€œIt is indeed right, our duty, and our joy that we should at all times and in ALL PLACES give thanks and praise to you, almighty Father, through Christ our Lord.โ€

This morning we really lived into the truth our liturgy proclaims: that it is good and joyful to worship God in ALL placesโ€ฆeven in the Fellowship Hall!!

A non-working elevator meant we couldnโ€™t gather in the Sanctuary, but that didnโ€™t keep us from worshipping together. Praise God!

A huge thank you to everyone who made worship in this location possible this morning and to Andi for some of these great pics! ๐Ÿ’’

"Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.โ€ -Matthew 18:20

This Sunday we will gather in the name of Christ, and with words of reconciliation coming to us from the scripture readings.

The elevator is currently out of order, so tomorrow morning we will gather in the Fellowship Hall for worship as we did on Mothers Day in 2023. Anyone gathering for Faith & Fellowship is welcome to help us ready the hall or to lift up joys and concerns together in prayer.

Join us for this unique worship opportunity at 10:00am. We may be surprised how God shows up among us. Gathered in the Fellowship Hall or in the Sanctuary, Christ is with us.

Peace be with you,
Pastor Amy and Pastor Mathew

Dear friends in Christ,
The air is still thick with the chirping summer crickets and bellowing frogs, and yet there is a gentle tide turning as well. There are signs of seasonal shift all around us, and I donโ€™t mean all the fall dรฉcor in the grocery stores. The truth is, we canโ€™t force a season to change any more than we can force a wave to turn up on the shore. Godโ€™s power moves through the universe, bringing each season to maturity in its own time. If we are too busy writing our own scripts and pushing our own agendas, we may miss it. But if we stop to notice, we can smell it and feel it in the air. With no rush at all, we can bear witness to Godโ€™s newness and embrace it when it comes.

In the powerful and surprising story from 1 Kings, Elijah waits patiently for God to show up, and after waiting through catastrophic winds, earthquake and fire, Elijah finally recognizes Godโ€™s arrival in the โ€œsheer silence.โ€ Elijah was given the spiritual gift of discernment to be able to say, โ€˜This is not it. The time has not yet come. I will wait for God to speak; that is, I will wait until it is quiet enough to hear the sound of my own heartbeat.โ€™

As we are plunged into a new fall season bursting to the seams with Sunday School, Bible studies, youth group, choirs, academics, rec and travel sports leagues, school clubsโ€ฆall this busyness can arrive with as much force as a fire or a hurricane, uprooting our schedules and rearranging our lives. And still, like Elijah, we can wait and listen for Godโ€™s still voice. Can we hear our own heart through all the noise?

When we find that we have a lot on our plate, we might ask an Elijah question: Where is God in all of this? And we might listen for Godโ€™s question to us in return, โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€ Truly, there is so much we plan to have in store for ourselves this seasonโ€ฆand how much more does God have in store for us?? I pray that St. Johnโ€™s will be a place for the sheer silence to break through, like the turning of the seasons, with a grace that feels familiar and yet altogether new.

In the Peace of Jesus Christ,
Pastor Amy Berger
