Parksville Baptist Church A CHURCH WITH HEART!

1 Corinthians 16:13: "Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong."

These were part of Paul's final words to the church in Corinth.

Paul told the church that they were to be on guard. This means to be constantly watching for spiritual enemies that may slip in and pose a threat to destroy them. The Corinthian church was to stand true to what they believed.

Let us consider the world around us. The world is seeking to corrupt us. There are men and women out there that are trying to spread false doctrine. What do we do about this? We are to stand firm against them and stay true to our faith.

Dear Heavenly Father: the world that we live in is corrupt. There are false teachers teaching false doctrine. Please help us to stand firm in our faith.

Luke 19:11: "He was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once."

When trying to stay in God's will, do you ever stop and realize that you get out ahead of Him? Do you try to stay in step with His plans? Do you fail to follow Him?

If you said "yes" to any of the above questions, you are not alone. We, as believers, tend to get ahead of ourselves. The disciples did the same thing. We want to follow God's plan for our lives. We miss how He desire to implement those plans.

Dear Heavenly Father: there are times in which we get ahead of ourselves and get out of Your will. Please help us to slow down and get in tune with You.

1 John 4:18: "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love."

There are times in which we do not feel good enough to deserve God's love. None of us deserve salvation. We are all dependent upon the mercy of God. God loves us more than we can ever know.
Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 2:4 that God desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

Salvation is love. God is love. When we know Him as our Savior and Lord, this should drive out all worry and fear. Lord: thank You for saving me by Your amazing love! Thank You that nothing can come between us!

Luke 6:35: "Love ye your enemies, and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil."

It is easy to love those who love us. It is easy to love those who are kind to us.

We really show our love when we love those who don't like us and those who are mean to us. There are times people show hostility to us "just because". There is no reason other than their hearts are hardened.

Jesus tells us to love our enemies. How do we show love to them? We pray for them. We pray that God will soften their hearts so that we can love like Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father: I pray today for our "enemies". I pray that you will soften their hearts. I pray that you help us to love like You do!

Ephesians 4:31: "Make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk. Be gentle with one another, sensitive."

Paul calls for believers to "make a clean break" with these bad habits. This is a spiritual cleansing of the heart. These attitudes poison relationships and hinder the fruit of the Spirit.

When we "make a clean break", we open space for God's love to flow freely. This creates a community where peace and unit reign.

Dear Heavenly Father: please help me "make a clean break" from the attitudes that poison my relationships with others. Please help me be more like You.

Ezekile 33:11: "As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their wicked ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways!

What we do with Jesus will determine where we spend eternity. God gives us a choice: (1) accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and we will spend eternity in Heaven or (b) do not accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and you will spend eternity in hell.

God takes no pleasure in people choosing (b). He tells us in Ezekiel 33:11 that He would rather that people would turn from their ways and live. He says: turn! Turn from our evil ways!

We serve a loving God that does not want ANYONE to die lost!

Dear Lord: we pray for the lost today. We pray that You help them understand that they are lost and are in need of you. We also pray today for our sins. Please forgive us in where we fail you.

1 Peter 4:10: "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."

God has always planned for us to invest in others. He has given us gifts to use to serve others. One of those gifts is to build one another up. We are to encourage one another.

We are to be faithful stewards of our gifts. What does this mean? This means that we are responsible to manage the gifts that has been entrusted to us by God.

Dear Heavenly Father: please help me to prioritize my time and resources to advance Your purposes today rather than personal preference.

Psalm 63:1: "O God, thou are my God, early will I seek Thee; my soul thirsteth for thee... in a dry and thirsty land, where not water is."

Setbacks and problems force us to draw close to God. Why? We know that we can't resolve them by ourselves. God allows us to experience difficulties.

This world is like a dry and thirsty land without water. The sooner we realize that the things of earth don't truly satisfy, the sooner we will focus on God.

Galatians 5:6: "The only thing that counts in faith expressing itself through love."

Jesus told us that we are to love God and love each other.

Forgiveness is an essential part of love. Why? Love keeps no record of wrongs, love is not easily angered, and love is not self-seeking. We are not forgiving when we keep records of the hurts others have done to us.

Ture love forgives. We do not obey God's command to love when we refuse to forgive others.

Forgiveness is a personal choice. Forgiveness can remove the burden we carry and help us to heal old wounds. Forgiveness is the only way that we can restore broken relationships.

Dear Heavenly Father: please give me the desire to forgive and cleanse my heart of bitterness and resentment.
