MEET GENERAL COUNCIL
Revs. Bill & Lisa Walker
Co-chairs for the General Board of World Missions
Bill was born in Sullivan, Indiana, and was raised by EMC missionary parents (Ron and Mary Ann Walker) in Bolivia. Lisa was born in Adrian, Michigan, to parents (Irvin and Faith Poucher) who were officers in the Salvation Army. They have two sons, Donovan and Josiah, and five grandchildren (4 boys and 1 girl). Bill and Lisa met at Vennard College and started ministering together then. They have served exclusively in the EMC for approximately 35 years in Iowa, California, Michigan, and Mexico (as missionaries).
They currently live just outside Athens, Georgia (since 2008), and love watching the Georgia Bulldogs play football! They continue serving as EMC missionaries and co-chairs of the EMC Board of World Missions. This ministry takes them to Mexico, Myanmar, the Philippines, Canada, and South Africa.
Lisa loves crafting, and Bill likes building things; they both love playing with their grandchildren! Because their missionary travels have taken them to many countries, they enjoy many types of cuisine. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but Bill always comes home to southern barbecue.
They are fulfilled in ministry when they see new believers discipled and churches grown. Bill enjoys teaching in the schools of ministry of the various EMC Global Conferences. Lisa’s favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11, and Bill’s is Isaiah 64:4. They hope to see the EMC (and the whole Kingdom of God) flourish around the world, and for our Global Conferences to work together and even send their own missionaries.
We are so thankful for Bill & Lisa and their passion for the World. They truly have a Great Commission heart and seek to make disciples of all nations. They do a fantastic job keeping all the Global Conferences connected. Their contribution to the EMC is invaluable and we thank God for them.
