Today's Gospel has a strong connection to a passage we heard proclaimed during Lent: the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. At the conclusion of that passage, the woman runs back to town to tell everyone about what Jesus has told her. As the townspeople begin to make their way out to the well to see Jesus, he tells the Twelve to "lift up [their] eyes, and see the fields are white for harvest." What were they looking at? The white head coverings and clothing of the Samaritans.

It's a good reminder that often, the people we are supposed to speak the Word to are RIGHT in front of us.

Today, let's ask the Lord for the strength to proclaim his Word to our neighbors here within the boundaries of St Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Church Painting

Good Afternoon!

today, I share with you that the long awaited painting of the exterior wood surfaces on the St Francis Xavier Church building will begin this Monday afternoon. The work is scheduled to continue for about four to six weeks.

During that time, workers will try to not interfere with Mass and other scheduled events in the church. Still, you may need to use a different entrance from time to time as they work in any particular area.

PLEASE NOTE: there will be times when the sidewalk is closed for safety reasons.

What will be done?
- 1 - All exterior wood will be sanded down and painted. Some may need to be replaced.
- 2 - The plexiglass covering the windows will be repaired or replaced and sealed as needed
- 3 - Some of the landscaping may be trimmed

Thank you for your patience as we get this project done!

Yesterday, we celebrated the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today, we remember Mary's heart, that image of her soul, which was in perfect continuity with God's plan. Lord, give us her heart here at St Francis Xavier!

RIP Sally McDonie

Dear friends,
I write today to share the news that Sally McDonnie passed away today surrounded by her family after a months long illness. May the angels and all the saints now greet her.
As most of you know, Sally served the parish in many ways over the past 50 years, including as Lector, Eucharistic Minister to the Homebound, and Catechist for adults coming into the church. She will be greatly missed by the parish community.

Arrangements are being made for Father Bill Matheny to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 15th at 11 am. Please watch the papers for more details.

Please join me in praying for the happy repose of her soul, and the consolation to the family she loved so dearly.

St Francis Xavier, it's the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus AND the World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests. But why celebrate both in one day? Watch our video to learn more.

Jewish-American legend Maurice Sendak was born on this day in 1928. Though he lived in America, he was deeply affected by the deaths of numerous family members during the Holocaust. His scary, haunting images result from this connection.

He's most famous for "Where the Wild Things Are," one of the most popular children's books of all time

Who is your best friend? Aristotle notes that there are three types of friends: those of utility, pleasure, and virtue. In the Christian understanding, truly virtuous friendship continues into heaven because the two people have spurred each other on to holiness. Learn more about virtuous friends here:
