John 15:15 (CSB)
15 I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from my Father.

Closer than a friend. More than a brother. He’s my Savior and Lord. He shares my innermost thoughts and leads on the path that He wants me to walk on. Though I may drift of course at times, He is there to put me back on track.

We are blessed to have such a merciful, wonderful, and gracious God who watches over us and protects us. It is up to us how close we want to get.

F***y Crosby was in the home of William Doane, one of her collaborators who she wrote thousands of hymns with. They were talking about the nearness they had with God. The next morning, they began writing the hymn "Draw Mw Nearer." This is one of my favorite hymns. A plea to my Lord to draw me nearer to Him and a cry for Him to use me wherever He needs me.

Psalms 98:1 (CSB)
A psalm.
1 Sing a new song to the LORD,
for he has performed wonders;
his right hand and holy arm
have won him victory.

I can’t do much of the devotion part without mentioning the hymn first today. The words to this hymn were written anonymously many years before it was translated into English from the original Latin it was written in. It speaks of what New Covenant and what Christ did on the cross for us.

Because of Christ's sacrifice, death has been defeated. Sin has been defeated. Satan has been defeated. Any of the negative things in your life ultimately have been defeated because of what Christ has done for us on the cross.

We should live life victoriously. We are so blessed. However, some of us need to let our faces know we this fact. Some of us need to let our tongues know this. Some of us need to let our attitudes know this.

Live a victorious life.

The title of the hymn is "The Strife is O'er, the Battle Won." Hallelujah! HE IS RISEN!

Psalms 23:6 (CSB)
6 Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
as long as I live.

What a beautiful ending to one of the most beautiful psalms written. Our Father God pursues us. We are one of His children. We need to always remember this. Through the redemptive work Christ did for us on the cross, when we accept the gift of salvation, we become a child of the living and breathing God. We are adopted. We have an inheritance. God is going to supply all of our needs and take care of us.

I’m sure you can list many times God has provided for you, whether that be physically, emotionally, or spiritually. He loves us and He is going to make sure we are provided for.

"My Shepherd Will Supply My Need" was written by Isaac Watts. Of course it is based off of the scripture above.

Psalms 55:22 (CSB)
22 Cast your burden on the LORD,
and he will sustain you;
he will never allow the righteous to be shaken.

This particular verse is so highlighted in my Bible app, I can barely read it. It has probably been in every devotion I have done over the years. But the verse is so important for us to remember and so important for life. I can’t tell you the number of times he has proven himself faithful to both Julie and I, and He continues to do so. I am so thankful for the God who loves me and continues to do so even in my failures. God is merciful. His grace is sufficient. He cares for His own. He provides not "a way," but the way. I am so thankful and blessed.

The writer of "If You But Trust in God to Guide You" found himself without a job after he completed his schooling. After a while, he finally found work and wrote this hymn.

John 12:13 (CSB)
13 they took palm branches and went out to meet him. They kept shouting:
“Hosanna!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord — the King of Israel! ”

How cool would it have been to have been part of the crowd worshipping and praising Jesus as Hen entered Jerusalem? Waving the palm branches, screaming His name at the top of your lungs. This would have been a place to be.

My devotion this morning dealt with the children who would’ve been present. We don’t often think of them since they were like the women of the time. When it came to counting those in attendance, and I hate to say it - but it was true with the society of that time, and those who mattered, only the men were counted and paid attention to.

Children are so improbable t to everything we do in church life. They need to be brought up believing everyone is important in the family of God and everything they do goes to support the family. Yes, children can do things to support the family of God.

There are times we need to watch the children and learn some very valuable lessons from them.

"Hosanna, Loud Hosanna" is today's hymn. Notice how children are mentioned all the way through. Oh only if we could worship our God with the glory and awe-filled joy of children. Once again, we can learn a lot from these kids.

Luke 15:6 (CSB)
6 and coming home, he calls his friends and neighbors together, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep! ’

Our Savior doesn’t lose His sheep. He keeps track of them and when they go astray, He will search for them and bring them back into the fold.

If you don’t feel the Holy Spirit convicting you of sin in your life, you may want it check your walk with the Holy Savior. Even though we have new hearts created in us when we accepted Christ, we still are dealing with our flesh. We will sin - daily. We should feel convicted of that sin and confess it before God and allow Him to forgive us of it.

That is the beauty of our Father God. His mercies are neaps every morning. He is willing to forgive us of the sin we commit even after we have accepted the gift of salvation.

God forgave David of the sins he committed and even had the writer call David a man after God's heart. Paul tells us of his struggle with sin, but yet he wrote most of the New Testament. Peter failed Christ three times before Christ was crucified, but God still used him to help establish the early church.

God forgave these men of their sin and still used them in mighty ways. Allow God, through the Holy Spirit to convict you of the sin you have in your life and allow Him to continue to make you more Christ-like.

"The King of Love My Shepherd Is" was written by Henry Baker. On his death bed, they could hear him quoting the third verse of this hymn he wrote. I very rarely do this to you, but listen to the third verse and hear this man's heart and how humble and convicted he was even on his death bed.

This is an absolutely gorgeous recording of this hymn. I hope you not only enjoy the music, but the message as well.
