From Student to Success: Salma’s Sweet Journey!
We are so proud to share the story of Salma, a graduate of the SOHI training program who turned her passion into a thriving business!
Salma is now a local baking powerhouse. Here is how she’s making an impact:
• Giving Back: She has come full circle and now serves as a trainer at the SOHI Skills Training Center, mentoring the next generation.
• Daily Hustle: She runs a consistent business delivering fresh "half-cakes" to local shops and taking private orders.
• Big Milestones: Through hard work and marketing to her neighbors and church, she recently achieved a dream—baking her very first wedding cake!
Salma says, "She has come this far. Thanks to SOHI and Glory to the Lord!" Her journey proves that with heart, hustle, and the right support, big dreams really do come true.

Allow me to introduce Jane Kwagalakwe, a skilled baker who recently completed her training in bakery skills. Having acquired an oven in December of last year, Jane has been successfully producing delectable cakes. However, her reliance on her skills trainer for essential baking materials, such as tins, often proved inconvenient, particularly when the materials were unavailable or in use. Fortunately, Jane has now invested in her own baking equipment, enabling her to fulfill cake orders without hindrance. As a trained teacher, Jane has also embarked on establishing her own school, demonstrating her commitment to achieving her educational aspirations. She is actively involved in teaching, supervising, and overseeing the construction of school buildings. When cake orders arise, Jane utilizes her evenings and weekends to bake, thereby supplementing her income for the school project. We wish Jane continued success and financial blessings to further expand her school's infrastructure, given its growing needs.

Meet Gladys who has turned her passion for hairdressing into a real business thanks to the SOHI program and training at MTAC. She started by braiding hair on her veranda at home. By August 2025, she opened her own official salon and proudly displays her training certificate to show her expertise. Gladys doesn't just style hair; she makes her own shampoos and hair foods. This unique touch has brought her new customers. After SOHI provided her with new salon equipment in November, she had a very busy Christmas season. She earned to the tune of UGX 1,500,000, which she used to take care of her family. Gladys plans to take national exams (UVTAB) to become an officially certified professional. Through hard work, Gladys is growing from a hobbyist into a successful business owner and manufacturer.

After skills training, Sylvia has been making practice working on different children and customers. This hairstyle is somehow hard for trainees and many dodge it. I'm glad that Sylvia's resilience to learning has earned her credit in this hairstyle. It is surely looking very neat. Keep going Sylvia

Upon completion of skills training, the sewing and tailoring class is poised to transition into the market. Having covered most of the curriculum, they are now applying their knowledge in practical exercises. The accompanying images showcase school shorts and skirts crafted by Josephine and Ampire for a school. Notably, Ampire has also mastered the traditional women's wear known as gomesi. I extend my pride to you both; continue excelling.

Hadijah Nabukalu's journey of resilience shows determination and strategic growth through the support of the SOHI organization. After dropping out of school at an early age in Primary Five due to financial constraints, she utilized last year’s SOHI literacy and numeracy classes to build the confidence necessary to pursue a professional trade. She enrolled in a tailoring course when she joined SOHI and demonstrated remarkable foresight by purchasing her own sewing machine while still in training. With further support from SOHI to acquire another sewing machine, she established a successful home-based workshop in Naguru Kiwalimu, where she has maintained a steady income through garment making and repairs.
Guided by SOHI’s business training on economic resilience, Hadijah decided to "think outside the box" by expanding into the cookery arts. She invested in baking and cooking classes at SOHI Skills Training Center. Using her 2022 savings, she had purchased a local oven, and she now sells cookies alongside her tailoring services, creating multiple income streams. Hadijah credits SOHI not just for teaching her technical skills, but for providing the empowerment needed to rewrite her life story. She continues to plan for future growth, serving as a model of success for the program.

Jane was able to work on nine cakes for different customers during the Christmas season after receiving her oven from SOHI, which allowed her to earn income instead of referring clients to her trainer. We appreciate the sponsors and management for facilitating this success.

Good things come to those who wait—and work hard!
The SOHI girls of Team Victory finally received their business equipment. Though they had to wait an extra year while, their patience and prayers paid off.
Our CEO promised them in May 2025 that their kits would arrive by December, and we are so happy to see that promise kept. These girls even participated in purchasing their own equipment, and were ready to launch their careers in tailoring, bakery and hairdressing just in time for the festive rush!
They are so grateful to SOHI team, CEO and to everyone who supports SOHI in changing their lives for the better.
